Laguna PowerJet Reef Safe?

I'm in the market for a return pump. There is a great sale on at my local PetSmart on the Laguna PowerJet 1300. Does anyone know if these pumps are safe to use in a reef tank system?

I had seen some posts from a few years back that stated that the PowerJets have some brass in the impeller, and therefore, aren't safe to use in salt water. There haven't been any recent comments on these pumps and was hoping that someone might know if they've changed things.

I really like the Laguna pumps. I had one running for years on my pond and the thing was a beast.

Anyone?

You should be fine. I am getting the Max Flo 2900 for my return. The Power Jets use the same pumps as the Max Flo with the riser added to it.

Thanks,

I had read in those old posts that the PowerJet used a different impeller than the Max Flo - and that's where the problem was. Maybe I'll just have to buy one and give it a shot.

I had one of the PetSmart employees pull apart the PowerJet for me. We looked at the impeller and didn't see anything that looks like brass.

Guess I'm good to go. The 2 down sides of this pump are that the fittings are made for the Laguna click-fit system (which can probably be easily overcome) and it is made to be run in a large plastic cage. There are no feet on the unit itself, so a user would have to manufacture something or lay it on a bed of neoprene.
