For those of you who don't know...

My name is Laura. LAK=my initials=very original.

Anyways...the only reason I am getting my own tank is because my boyfriend, TJ (Tswifty8) is some sort of saltwater mastermind in my opinion.

Basically I could never do this alone because I understand very little about plumbing and sumps and all that flib flab. I consider myself a coral junky (chalices!!!) and a lover of tiny and strange looking little fish (ie. baby box fish).

Anyways, I very excited to finally have my own tank. But, it will be as much TJ's as it is mine.

Well I'm definitely adding a clown goby and a blenny. So the other one (watchman) that I was thinking about adding will have to be crossed off then.

And let me note that the cardinals are wee little babies (not even an inch). When they grow up they can make the transition to TJ's tank.

Its funny you mentioned that, one of the reason I want to set up the nano I spoke of earlier was for a starting home for a baby box fish I saw in the LFS last week. I think they are an awsome fish. I was a little concerned by their really small size (babies) but it would by perfect for a small nano to start with. I think I'm going to pick up a 20g and make a custom nano out of it. I figured I would wait a week or 2 to see if the babies survive in the LFS tanks and if there any left I want to grab one and let him live in my 35g refugium till I get his new home ready. It's kind of a toss up though between a boxfish or a little toby at this point.

I don't know whether or not the tailspot blenny will do ok in the nano, but I have heard that the personalities they have are outstanding

I would really love to get one as well.

Yeah. I just love the look of those little guys. The midas blenny TJ has is awesome. It's so cool to watch.

Yeah, the video was neat. I'm hoping they get them in stock soon!

Laura wanted to see her acans in relation to mine, now that everything is moved into my new display tank. They are all the way on the right, and you'll notice the color changed a bit as I switched the lighting from Aqualine AB 20k to Pheonix 14k, so you get a little bit more "natural" of a look.

I don't know if I'm going to give them up though... they sure look happy in my tank. :lol:

They may look happy in your tank but Im sure Laura wont look to Happy if you try that. Keep the frag and you may lose the love of an awsome women.....lol.....you do the math.

i cant wait to see the finished product. i would be carefull using two pumps though, these tanks heat up pretty quickly. before i removed the hood on mine, the tank would stay at a constant 86 degrees. :eek2: and thats with only 1 pump and 48w of PC...

you might want to plan the false section to house a sapphire skimmer just in case the fish load becomes a problem in the future. personally i think that the LPS would like a skimmerless tank, but even in my tank with a giant (relative to tank size) refugium, the skimmer and frequent water changes i still get traces of hair algae and valonia. and i only have 1 fish and feed very lightly!

i would recommend planning for the sapphire skimmer because the next step down is the BC nano, which i have and its not that great. it works alright, but i hear alot of good reviews about the sapphire skimmer over the BC nano. its just a thought for the fututre though.

with the price of acans and chalices i would plan for EVERYTHING! :lol:

I was wondering what type of heat issues I may end up dealing with. Perhaps I will have to find a better way to vent the top. 86 is definitely much higher than I want that tank maxing out at.

As far as the skimmer goes, I'm hoping not to incorporate one. I ran skimmerless on my 20 long frag tank when it housed all my SPS w/ a 3" yellow tang, Midas Blenny, and Yasha Goby in it as well and never really had nitrates reach higher than 10ppm I believe... and I agree that LPS enjoy and tolerate a more nutrient rich environment. Hopefully weekly water changes will be enough, but it's something we may have to play by ear.

As soon as I get my hands on the pumps I can get some dimensions to Keith and get the ball rolling on the construction. I'm wondering if I can use one pump to feed everything. I'm just not very familiar with these tanks, and am not sure just how much flow she is going to need.

i think mine has a MJ1200 or something like that and the flow from it is pretty worthless. as far as moving water through the back chambers it does just fine, i wouldnt need anything more, but for flow in the tank its useless. even my koralia nano seems to be a little light for that tank.

as far as running a skimmerless SPS frag tank with 3 decent sized fish and no algae problems, i would attribute that to you being Tswifty

...me on the other hand, i wouldnt push my luck! :lol:
