what is that? :inlove:

Yeah, that's the ATL Meteor Shower Cyphastrea. Started as 1 red polyp that popped off of my original frag a while back. I glued it to a frag plug to see what would happen, and once it was healthy enough... moved it into Laura's system.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....Cinti isnt that far off....I'll buy the tank, love it, and care for it more than my........kids???? ;) Seriously...let me know! And when you move to a place where you are able to set up....call me and it's your again! I'm a good friend huh!!!!

We had a big storm run through the area last night, lots of rain, flooding, and power outages. Luckily my residence was not effected, but I think Laura's was. Anyway, I went over to check out the tank status today, and everything was fine. Although I did manage to get the crap stung out of me by a bristleworm somehow... and sat around for 30 minutes pulling the little bristles out of my right hand with tweezers. :rolleye1:

If I feel up to the challenge, I may start the sump upgrade tomorrow... but we'll see.

Glad everything made it through the storm okay. Those are some beautiful pieces that would be a bummer to lose.

Bummer on the bristleworm. Been there. I found that masking tape worked good to pull the bristles out and soaking the wound in rubbing alcohol seemed to disolve the rest.

ATL meteor shower cyphastrea huh? what a pretty little thing that is! i have a cyphastrea but its nowhere near as pretty as that.

so what does the bristle worm sting compare to in terms of pain TJ?

Well I'm on my way home right now. I'll be interested to see what the tank looks like. TJ was suppossed to start the sump yesterday, but he ended up not doing it or not having time I assume. I'm leaving Tuesday for Ohio and would like to have it done before then. That's all on him, though.

Yeah, if I ever end up down that way, I'll have to bring you a piece. It grows very fast, and is pretty darn hardy. Under less lighting it gets more of a blue tint to the skin, and under more intense lighting, the skin gets a grey appearance. I really like Cyphastrea's for that reason... there are some really nice varieties and color combinations out there.

As far as the bristleworm sting goes... it didn't really hurt, and was more annoying than anything else. Luckily I was able to pull most of the bristles out, so I didn't have any swelling or pain today.

I'm actually preparing for another large storm that is supposed to roll through our area in a little. It's just starting to thunder and lighting outside. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be able to ride this one out as well. :(

i wont argue with that! ;)

my cyphastrea is orange and metallic green. when you shift you head and change your viewing angle while looking at it, it looks like one of those holographic baseball cards, its really neat!

i didnt know you guys got crazy summer storms like we do here in Texas. im from the san francisco bay area in CA. and something i never realized is that there are some places in the world that dont have consistent seasons. i never knew that a hard core storm could happen during the summer untill i moved here! in any case i hope it doesnt hit you guys too hard, i know these summer storms can be pretty damaging, good luck.

and im glad to hear that the worm didnt ruin your day, ive heard of people getting infections and junk from being stung by those things.

It's about 80% done. I needed one more piece to finish the return plumbing, but didn't realize until after the hardware stores were closed. So I'm going to pick up the piece and finish it up tomorrow. The overflow box won't be installed for a week or so though. I wanted to install the bulkheads and pipes first, so I could get an accurate measurement before having Keith construct it for me.

Also, I'm going to work on the skimmer pump tonight a little. It needs to be re-meshed, and a new rubber flange needs to be installed on the pump cover.

Laura informed me that she wants an Anemone and Clownfish tank now, so it looks like she (we) will be clearing out most of her corals over the next few weeks. Although, I think a few of them will be transferred into my system. Then once her system is ready, my RBTA will be moved into her tank.

Some of the construction pics...

The tank was drained about 1/2 way before I drilled. I used a hole saw similar to the one in this picture.

Just re-meshed the impeller. Waiting back on some opinions in some other forums before I put it into use though. I think it may need another layer of mesh. Looks good from the top, but the side view doesn't have me thrilled. In the pics below, the white/clear impeller is the EuroReef's.

Looking good.
What return pump are you planing to use?
Also can you tell what pumps you're using for water motion on this tank?

Edit: the looking good comment was for the plumbing to the sump. don't know a thing about those impellers
