LAK's 15g Cube

A Mag 3 will be used for the return, and a Tunze 6025 will provide flow inside the tank.

I got some feedback on the impellers, and both were considered good. However, I would like to add a 3rd layer of mesh to the Sedra Impeller before placing it into use.

where do you guys learn to do your mesh mods? it seems like everybody does it but i havent yet discovered where everybody learns how to do and where to get the supplies from?

i have a brand new euroreef es5-3 which is an older model i bought about 4 years ago when i was going to set up my 75g. its still in perfect shape and ide like to get the mesh mod going on it so that when i do get around to using it, i get some killer foam action. the only problem is that i dont know how to do the mod or where to get the stuff i need? is there a web site or video that shows the process of meshing the impellar from a sedra pump?

There's not really a "how to" out there that I've seen. I remember seeing some pics before, and just kind of pieced it together by looking at the old mesh I pulled off. It's actually pretty simple.

When I re-mesh the Sedra impeller tomorrow, I'll try and snap some pics of the process for you.

I was pretty ill today, and unable to make it over to Laura's... so I need to finish up everything tomorrow before she leaves. Seriously though... who gets sick in the summer!?!?!?!

Got the plumbing finished, and the sump is up and running. No pics though, because I was being rushed out the door... so I really only had time to plumb everything and fire it up. Also, due to the shortened time period, I was unable to hook up the skimmer.

I sent Keith the overflow box dimensions, so hopefully I'll be able to install it next week sometime when Laura gets back.

Updates :)

I had my first day of work today at the U of Akron! 10 hour day, but awesome and I'm so excited!

I will be coming home Saturday, and be home for the week so we can get everything finished (skimmer).

Finally, as most of you have probs seen, I'm selling my corals and going with with an anemone/clownfish tank. It will be much easier for my bro and tj to take care of while I'm going back and forth to Ohio.

Glad to hear your enjoying your new job Laura :D!
Sucks that you'll be selling all your coral, but I think it will look awesome as an anemone tank :D!

I'm without a camera as my mother and little sister went on a weekend getaway and took all 3 of our digital cameras. :rolleye1:

Anyway, I installed the overflow box today... added a 3rd layer of mesh to the sedra impeller, and installed the protein skimmer. The skimmer fired right up, which was a relief. However, the tank is drained 25% to allow the weld-on to set and cure for 24hrs. So the sump/skimmer will be down until tomorrow.

On a negative note... I did manage to drip a little weld-on down the side of the tank. Of course it's on a visible pane as well. Anyway, I'll have to look for an acrylic repair kit, as it looks like I'll have to sand it off somehow to repair it.

I also hope to install some braces/support for the plumbing, and add a pad under the return pump to silence some vibration noise it's causing. I will be thrilled once this tank is done... this is exactly why you plan everything AHEAD of time... then it doesn't drag out for weeks and weeks and weeks after the tank is already full.

Haha, I can't believe they took 3 :p
I hope they take lots of photos to justify it

Good to hear that the overflow box is installed :D!
Sucks about the drip on the viewing pane though :(
This thread has some good pictures about halfway down about sanding back acrylic:

Can't wait to see it all done :)

Good luck with your new job Laura.
Sorry to hear you're selling all your Acans... I still remember how enthouiastice you were about them when I was in Ohio... still an anemone tank is a nice idea.
Actually I'm considering two small tanks on the sides of my new tank on the next upgrade where one will have seahorses and another will be anemone clowns only...still that's not in the open now as my wife still thinks the designed open space on both sides of the tank is only for viewing...

However, we did hit 1 major problem, which I need to find a solution ASAP for. I am stumped at this point, and if the power goes out... big... big trouble.

Thanks for stopping by Maroun! I'm actually not selling all my acans...I'm keeping 3 or 4 of them, but selling the rest. I'm clearing out a side of the tank for tj's nem, the other side will still have some acans and palys....i couldn't get rid of them all! haha

The tank is doing well this morning. Luckily no power outages. Hopefully TJ can figure out the plumbing issue today. I'm off to buy some superglue to do some coral scaping : )...like I said above, I'm keeping a few acans and palys and putting them on the right side of the tank. The left side will be for TJ's nem. Hopefully he stays on the left side when I put him in there!!

Glad to hear the tank is doing well :)
Haha, I hope the nem stays on the left side too, otherwise all your hard work of glueing corals might be in vain :(

I wouldnt count it. i hate to sound pestimistic or like a downer, but i had the same hopes for the nem in my tank and i couldnt have been more wrong! although, thats not to say that you wont have luck with it, because lots of people do, its just that a majority of people have wandering nems wreaking havok on thier reefs, me included!

honestly i would wait on gluing anything down untill the nem chooses its location. if it stays in one location for a few days then at that point you should consider glueing the corals in place. i know EXACTLY how frustrating it is to glue something in place only to have a nem decide to park itself right on top of that coral. its pretty irritating!

Agreed! My nem did nearly a full lap of the rock pile I placed it on, before finding a spot it liked (in the back of the tank!!!). If you glue stuff down before putting the nem in, make sure you un-glue it if the nem wanders in it's direction.

Thanks for the advice guys! Yeah I bought the superglue, but didn't put it to use yet. I have the corals sitting where I eventually would like them to go, but as stated...you never know with nems...so the corals will go based on where the nem decides to reside lol
