Large Derasa clam - Pinched Mantle?

I have had this clam for almost a week. The shell is about 12 inches. It was kept under 250w radiums previously and my tank has 400w radiums. It wasn't fully expanding so I shortened my photo period on that side of the tank and it is extending now so I will acclimate it slowly to the additional light, but I want to make sure that it doesn't have pinched mantle. It has a couple spots the concern me and 1 side isn't extending quite as much as the other.

What are your thoughts? I started carbon last night. If it is pinched mantle it looks fairly minor. Should I do a freshwater dip? Should I wait and see what it looks like later today/tomorrow?

Thanks in advance!

Don

a properly done fwd won't hurt a healthy clam and could cure early pmd, even though if what you see is pmd, it's not apparent to me.

I forgot to mention that I drop acclimated the clam slowly over 2 hours to minimize stress.

Ah, that may be your problem, depending upon from what height you dropped it! :lolspin: OK, I'm sorry, couldn't resist. Clam looks OK to me as well.

I actually just saw that myself! :) I should probably drip next time!!!

This is actually one of the times I am thankful for the camera I keep pointed at the tank... I was watching it in fast forward watching for any irritators and found my Desjardini Sailfin picking at it just enough to keep it from fully opening!!! So I pulled it and put it in my 60 cube. It really makes a statement in this smaller tank, but at least no one is picking on it.

Interesting. It is my long held opinion that fish nipping may be at the root of many 'unexplained' deaths - and not just clams. Good that you were able to spot it.
