I've read many postings about one of two things happening in tanks using base rock vs. live rock:
1) The rock leaches phosphates for an extended period of time (4-6 months).
2) The sps eventually close up polyps and die off.
The first seems controllable with a bit of patience, but the second is a bit of a mystery to me. I'm looking to see if anyone out there has a successful large SPS dominated system using base rock (e.g. BRS Pukani).
Please post if you have direct experience.
