my wife and i are a looking for our first house and i've received the ok to go for a large reef tank, unfortunately i'll be taking down my large FW tank but worth it. im trying to figure out what size tank i should go with. i've been thinking a 60x30x24-ish tank, i'd love a 250DD. i'd like to keep SPS and zoas mainly. im more interested in fish than corals so i'd like to pick the tank based on the fish i want.

here's a proposed stock that i'd like to build the tank around
6 lyretail anthias
copperband butterfly
longnose butterfly
maybe another sp or two of butterfly
pearly jawfish pair
kole tang
2-3 Genicanthus sp.
5-6 wrasse (leopard, flasher, flame, fairy)
a blenny or two
maybe a regal angel

does a 175-250g tank sound appropriate for that stock list or am i dreaming?

I would go for 220-250 gal just because it is easy to find more and more that you want and you are.starting with a clean slate. The 175 might work but why risk running out of space? The incremental cost isn't that much greater.

That is a decent amount of bioload, I would opt for as big a tank as you can afford and have room for. I have a 180 and am happy with it but there isnt a day when I wish I didn't spend a few more dollars and go even bigger.
