Largest Yellow Tang

Curiosity killed the cat, but what is life without curiosity?

What is the largest Yellow Tang you have ever seen? Please describe if it was observed in captivity or in the wild.

It was 6' tall. It had tail spines the size of a machette. It ate heads of romaine lettuce in single bite.


Maybe 6.5 - 7" both in captivity and in Hawaii.

Dallas Aquarium has a massive reef/shark aquarium with some of the biggest tangs I've seen, including a yellow tang who was about the size of a small dinner plate- maybe about 7" long and 6 1/2" tall. There were others, but that was about the largest I saw.
Some of the sharks were sporting tail-spine scars on their noises. Probably from the nearly two-foot tangs in there.

I've seen an 9-10" Yellow tang from one of the locals here in CA.
It was the size of a ruler... I swear!
