lastlight's 225 reef build

It's funny I run my lights and pumps so often I think I'll need to replace them by the time I can afford to finish this build!

The light fixture just POUNDS light into the tank. You can't tell the bulbs don't span the entire length of the tank...not with your eyes anyways.

And yeah I have the 3 stream pumps on right now as well and the turbulence in the tank is unreal. I have 2 pumps in the traditional upper back corners and the 3rd sitting right underneath the rear left pump blowing almost straight across the back. I'm getting at least a 1/2" wave at times on interval 2 and it almost doesn't matter how silent I made the tank so far: these pumps are manhandling that water over the overflow weir!

The waveboxes won't be used however. They run far too loud for my liking and my water level is too tight against my eurobracing I think.

and I like to look at sexy things.

This IS the internet. You can do much sexier than a build thread lol!

I snapped a couple quick ones tonight. I will spend the time to learn how to do white balance etc when I have corals and fish but for now it's good enough =)

Clearly the camera knows the light's dimmer on the ends!

Looks sweet as is, no need to add fish/corals! Like others have said really clean build, dig the modern theme too!

 looks like my office. When I first got my halides my wife was ****ed because it illuminated the entire second level with a pleasant blue hue. Until she got used to it she would go on and on about how she didn't know how I could stand to sit in here with my tank lights on, so i'd mess with her and take my shirt off and pretend to be tanning when she came in lol.

LOL @ Ryandlf

Thanks for the pics!

It really does look impressive. To be upfront I should tell you that I've sent pics of your tank to the tank builders builing my 180g so they know exactly what i'm looking for... Though my plumbing and so fourth will be quite different, your system was a huge help in clarifying what a clean and modern look can be for an aquarium.

Thanks guys.

Ryandlf...I hope that wasn't an invite to post shirtless shots! I'm not quite ready for that...my body build lags this one by A LOT haha.

That's pretty tough talk for a guy from Edmonton man =)

I'm settling into my new self-employment nicely and things look really positive I think. I'll try my best to divert some grocery money or something into the build as soon as I can.

And yeah no skimmate pic...I had it filled with freshwater only.

Nice build, patience is the key. I've had my tank for over a year and I'm still building. Anyways I came across your ALW thread. I would like to do the same with my pendant fixture. Did you have a video of the fixture going up and down? I'm seeing if I can do the DIY project by myself or have help. Keep up the good work.

At least you got the expensive part out of the way before times got a little tougher. Try to stay positive, its good to hear the self employed thing is working out. I'm originally from Edmonton as well! I sold out and moved to the states 10 years ago though.

Smart move man. Calgary would have been another stellar move!

Yeah in the back of my head when thinking of money etc...I'm always adamant in my head that I'll do anything to avoid having to sell the system off at this point. It's a massive investment for me certainly as I'm a very average joe and I'm not sure I'd be able to do it again anytime soon especially with my young family in full-swing now.

So on the positive side I need:

some heaters
ranco dual stage
ro/di
osmolator
couple american dj power thingies
cheap timers for my lights

Not too bad really. Then I can get rock, sand, salt, etc.

Profilux standalone doser I will get later on but run the tank manually until then.

So the next few months are all about seeing how sustainable my current working situation is and softening the wife up for just a few more purchases. I'm CLOSE!

It will still be a close race to the finish, you watch Tony's going to sneak up and beat us both.. :D

But seriously, fantastic build!

Since you live in Canada :) you may want to check out reefsolution for a really good inexpensice ro/di unit. I've had one for about 5 months now and love it. No problems, not leaks, 070 TDS in 000 TDS out checked with both an inline and hand held. If you get a TDS or something else it'll put you over the $200 for free shipping :) It's the best 100 gpd for a great price at $169.00 CDN. Good customer service also, the owner actually called me when he was shipping out my order.

Thanks for the heads up on the ro/di. I'm actually leaning toward the Vertex puratek I think. I like the idea of saving a lot of water with it.

All this sloooooooowest build thread, mumbo jumbo has angered me. I have the most pathetic (time-wise) build going. Check the dates in my homepage. My record speaks for itself. The title is MINNNNNE!

:o :D

Great build thread! You've beautifully executed some great ideas.

I hear you on the monetary front. And that's awesome that you're making strides with self-employment. Keep your chin up and keep us posted!
