Latz For Sale

John,
First off I would like to apologize for the inconvenience to you in regards to the problem that you are experiencing with the clownfish. I would also like to assure you that we did not send the fish out with a damaged tail. This batch of clownfish was acting normally and looked very good when they were bagged and boxed in order to make the transit to your aquarium. As you well know unfortunately in rare instances fish can experience difficulties during transit, and show imperfections or damages once exposed to the stress of shipping, that were not visible upon initial inspection. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not sure if this was more a handling issue or a water chemistry issue during transit. Please feel to contact us by telephone at 1-800-334-3699 and we will take care of any issues if we have not done so already. If you shoot me a PM with your full name and contact info I will make sure you are notified when the next batch of these clowns are adjusted and are ready for sale. We are expecting to receive another batch in the next month or so. We will have these clownfish first sent to our Coral Farm in Rhinelander WI in order to quarantine and treat them before offering these sensitive fish for sale. Thank you.

Kevin,

While I understand what you are saying, and in many cases this is quite correct. However the extent of the damage to the females tale can not in any reasonable concept be thought to happen solely from transport. Tale damage had to be present prior to shipping.

I am glad that you are planning on taking the extra time with these fish. IME your A. chrys are some of the best cared for from any retailer. So if you can place these fish with whoever works with your chrys, they will likely come out in great condition.

Hey guys,

I also ordered a Latz clown from them last week. Fortunately I had a feeling they were going to be stressed from the previous shipping so I told Live Aquaria to postpone shipping until this Wednesday. After reading the last few posts I'm a little worried about my clown getting shipped. I just pmed Kevin and told him if the clown doesn't look healthy then I rather not have him ship it and I can wait for the next batch. But just in case is there anything I should look for if the clown gets shipped out? I have decent experience with clowns (got a pair of onyx and a cap at the moment) but I can always use some help with Latz. Also will a Latz host in a carpet? I got one prepared for him but I wasn't 100 percent sure the clown will host in it. Anyways any help/suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

James

Kevin-

Thanks for chiming in. I hope I did not seem like I was bashing liveaquaria - not my intention and I tried to chose my words carefully. I do not think that under any circumstances you guys would have shipped a fish you thought was ill. I just think it probably wasn't redily apparent or got overlooked. I am sure the LA warehouse is busy shipping hundreds of orders each day and lets just face it, s$%^ happens sometimes. I think you guys are a first class outfit and you expressing your concern here only confirms it. I have bought from you many many times before and will continue to do so.

I do believe, and I think you guys have recognized it as well, that 1) the turn around time from importation to customer on these clowns was perhaps a little short 2) these clowns require a little extra care. Also, it is a fact that larger adult wild clowns are terrible shippers. I will take juvenile wild clowns any day of the week.

I did not contact customer service yet, because, quite frankly when I have called them about fish I thought were going to die in the past, I was quoted the 14 day guarantee/return it or call us back when it dies. Since neither clown is dead yet, I didn't see any point. My biggest frustration is that I paid for healthy fish and received sick ones. I don't want to see them die, but saving them is going to involve a lot of time and effort on my part. If I pull them through and one month from now I am left with 2 clowns with healed stumps for tails, what then?

The long and the short of it is that I am just disappointed. Like many on this board, I have been waiting a long time to get my hands on some of these clowns. I just don't want mine to die.

On a lighter note, the female is now eating so I must be doing something right. Her tail is still a bloody stump but does not seem to be deteriorating any further.

John,
Thank you for sending over a PM with your info. Donna, the LiveAquaria supervisor should have already contacted you in regards to these guys. I will keep you info on file and get a hold of you in the next 4-6 weeks after we receive, quarantine, and medicate the next shipment of clowns. Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience to you.

As all of you know, everyone in the industry has been waiting for well over a year for these fish and itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s a shame that they came to John in such rough shape. Out of all the species of clownfish, Amphiprion latezonatus are notoriously the hardest to ship. Even thought this is the case we still offer our unconditional 14- day guarantee on this species, as well as all the aquatic life on our site. I will be in touch, and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Kevin Kohen

Happy to say that both my latezonatus are alive nearly a week later despite the tail problems. The female with the worst tail is actually healing to some degree (she still has a long way to go). Still in quarantine though. Keeping the water at a cool 73 degrees which they seem to like. More importantly they are eating like the little clownfish pigs they are. How are everyone else's doing?

Glad to hear it John.

My two are doing well, but the smaller one (2.25") is continually chasing the larger (2.75") of the two, and has it cowering in different parts of the QT. The larger will not submit, which is worrying me. I am debating whether or not to separate them with eggcrate. I want them to figure this out now while in QT, because if they don't I may have to try pairing one of them with my large (5") female, which really concerns me.

Turns out they sold out of the Latz even though I got a confirmation from them via email and I called in to make sure my order was confirmed. However this might be a good thing since I will get a pair from the next batch they get in and this time around they will be more prepared for these clowns.

I would like to hear more from the people that bought these Latz from LA and just people that owns Latz in general. The more I read from here the better I will be prepared for them.

latz

i used to work in a aquarium store a few years back and i would occasionally go to LA and pick fish from the wholesalers.i saw quite a few late. clowns but they never looked good.and they were always in the wholesalers qt tanks(medicated tanks).the few that i did try never made it.guess the stress of shipping around the world and the fact that they like cooler waters doesnt make them very viable.

Been a month since I last got response from LA about the Latz. Seems like they're not coming in or something. My tank is very lonely w/o a pair of Latz.

Well good to see Kevin and LA are at least communicating with their customers and are unstanding of the situaiton and offer the guarantee (which doesn't help with a broken heart)

Hope all ends up well.

It also means alot to me that John thinks highly of their chrysopterus, I might just consider ordering another pair.
