Lawnmower blenny to blame for monti cap problems?

I know they are known to nip but mine wasn't causing any trouble until a little algae bloom appeared on my red cap. I would see him mouthing my red cap colony which is over 12" across. Now all my parameters are back to normal and all my other corals are fine and growing except my red, green and purple cap and rainbow monti.
Do you think this blenny is causing damage to all the montis? Why are all the other branching sps doing fine and the encrusting montis failing? I have not seen him nip the rainbow but I never saw any algae on it either.
Has anyone ever had montis deteriorate while other SPS are fine and growing for any other reason?
My first thought was that the blenny was helping to reduce the algae bloom.

Montis typically are the easiest SPS to keep. I kept a lawnmower blenny with a couple large caps for quite some time until he was crushed by an unstable rock:(

have you added anything to your tank lately? maybe a monti eating nudi hitchhiked to your tank and is enjoying the buffet???

I had a redlip blenny that made my monti caps his home. He never bothered the corals at all. He used them as a perch to get food when I fed the tank, and then to bite at me when I stuck my hand in for any reason. He irritated me sometimes, but never the corals.

You might want to check for low alkalinity or try raising it to the high end of acceptable. Montis can be very touchy with alk, and that could explain why just they are affected.

AC,

I am having issues right now with my plating and encrusting montis right now as well. Did you colors fade at first and then loose some tissue? Do you carbon dose or use zeovit or MB7? Have you also checked your Alk levels?

In my case all params were fine (PH, Alk, Calcium, Phosphate). From what I have been researching there seems to be possible issues with depressed potassium levels with these methods. I used MB7 (Brightwell Aquatics) on my tank after seeing others results with this product. Everything was doing great and coloring up but until about two weeks ago all the caps (4 total) colors started fading out, and all my acros, millis, birdsnest, LPS etc. were all fine. So I googled fading monti caps and stumbled on some other threads talking about the possible tie between fading caps and potassium levels. I did a 25% water change yesterday and the caps have already shown improvement. I ordered an Elos Potassium test kit (hard to find!) along with K+ (potassium additive) which I should have tomorrow. I will post my test results tomorrow. I hope I have not hi-jacked your thread just wanted to share...

Please post your results with the potassium test. I'd be interested in hearing about what you find.
