Layered sand

I have an established 90 gallon reef tank and I'm regretting using oolite as my 2.5" bed. Does anyone have any experience adding coarser sand on top of less coarse sand? I'm getting lots of movement with the oolite. I'm guessing that the coarser sand will eventually work its way to the bottom of my sand bed, exposing the oolite. Any ideas?

IMHO the coarser sand will remain on top and finer sand will stay on bottom. Unless the coarser sand is of greater density there is no reason for it to drift down.

+1, the courser sand will stay on the top. If yo had mixed sizes all together, and it was turned overy by your CUC the larger sand particals would work their wy to the top while the smaller ones would flow underneath of them

No sir....as long as your okay with the way it looks...its all a personal preference..Go for it.
