how do you take such clear and colorful pictures?

I took these pics with a Nikon D50 and a sigma 150 macro lens on a tripod with no flash. I set the ISO at 400, which is why if you look carefully you can see a few grains... next time I'll probably try 200.

i'm working on it, i've got 3 pairs right now. 2 pairs are still juvenile, but have paired up, and I have 1 adult pair with some promise. i'll be sure to let you know if they start breeding.
