Leak test 180gal with tap water

Hi gang,

Getting VERY close to putting water in our 180gal. I just have a quick question regarding leak testing. I have a Filter Guys RO/DI unit that I plan on using for making saltwater. I want to fill everything up first (tank and sump) with regular tap water using our garden hose to make sure nothing leaks and all pumps work ok. If I drain the tap water out after do I have to worry about any residual contaminants from the hose or tap water etc.?

thanks

I just towel dried mine after draining to get out as much as I could and had no side effects that I'm aware of, it should be fine

You should be just fine. Like Fiat said just dry it out. No worries.

Good luck and glad to hear your tank is getting wet.

Doing the same right now on the 125. Found a plumbing problem {siphon didnt work}, drained it re did plumbing, found leak in plumbing, drained it and trying again :D

I didn't even dry mine out after using the garden hose to fill it. I used a shop vac to get as much water out as possible and then started filling it back up with RO/DI water. Not that I'm recommending it, but I didn't even rinse off the end of the shop vac before putting it in the tank.

Neighbors got concerned when they saw me emptying the shop vac and a 55 gallon trash can full of water into the street in the middle of winter. Everyone thought I'd had a pipe burst. :)
