Nice.... What Lens are you using? I'm really trying to talk myself into getting the Tamron 18-270 PZD lens for my T2i, its the lens that does everything including Macro... Just cant bring myself to blow $600 on it.

Have you gone to the canon web site they have a few vidios on the t3i. I also have it and still trying to learn

The greater the range of the focal length, the less sharp your photos will be.

True, but I'm not really sure I'd notice the difference. I'd much rather have the ability to zoom in and out really far... for taking video of my kids hockey game and then take a nice close pic of him all sweaty and gross with that big smile after the game and not have to worry about changing lenses and such. Maybe have the ability to take some Macro shots of my corals too.... I've heard that if you point that lens down it will just slide out, thats sounds really sketchy to me... even my cheap kit lens doesnt do that! I'll have to really do some reasearch on it since Fathers Day is coming around....

This is what's known as "lens creep". Heavier lenses tend to do this. Obviously, if you look at the higher end 1-2k+ lenses, they will not.

I agree with you though, if you aren't taking pictures professionally or to "show off", I think that you'll be fine.
