learning to take pics...

So not only am I new to salt water, but pretty new to trying to get a decent pic inside the tank. Not to mention the fact that all I have for a digital camera is an archaic Sony I was given a couple years ago when my mother upgraded.. (Not that she knew how to use this one either..)

so anyway... my first attempts.

full tank... 210 gallon, 75 gallon sump.. only 2 months old..

some sort of nudi... dang they are hard to focus on...

After my visa card recovers from getting this tank up and running, I will be looking in to a better camera...

I am really happy with the serpent star hiding pic...

What model Sony is your camera? I would suggest the following if possible....

Tripod
Turn off all water flow and let the tank settle.....
Then if the camera has a timer setting (most do from 2-5 seconds or longer) set the camera once you focus on your shot and use the timer and let the camera take the shot. This helps keeping your hands from pushing the shutter down and causing camera shake. Most point and shoot cameras take quite nice tank photos as they are able to place the front of the lense against the glass. (Again most point and shoot but not all models can do this) I had a Sony H1 that took incredible shots of my tank but I sold it and wish I didn't as it was a nice point and shoot but also it was a great tank cam.

Don't upgrade yet as there might be options for you to try with the camera you have. Read a little and you will be surprised. A camera makes a world of difference but a good photographer can shoot with almost anything as long as it works! (With in reason of course!)

its a sony Cybershot 4.1 megapixel, and in all honesty other than some random shots, and selling car parts on Ebay, I've really never looked in to how it works. With no instruction manual, I have enough issues just getting the flash working every time.

And yes, everything was running, and I'd done a water change that day as well...

Here is a link to download your manual. I would check that out and mess with some settings and see how you make out. With point and shoot D. Cameras its sometimes best to shoot in auto mode for lighting.

The PDF file for the cam is there? Did the link do something else as mine worked and I just downloaded his file perfectly from the cam he suggested? Cybershot 4.1??

Practice practice...that's the great thing about digitals. You can toss them. I've seen some amazing pictures in here over time, with simple cameras. I have a slr but I take my pictures in auto 98% of the time. I'm working on getting better.
