I picked up a leather from my local fish guy. It looked great in his tnk, good PE and nice colours. I put it in my tank and it hasnt opened at all y et. It has been in my tank a little over a week now.

Im not sure what my parameters are but the 3 BTAs and the LPS seems to be doing fine.

It is a little further way from my lights then his but Im sure my bulbs are newer then his so figured it would be fine.

Any ideas?

this is normal for leathers..mine dose this all the time ....it comes back bigger and better too...maybe you just got to give it some time its probably just mad.......

I just got one today! Mine isn't opening either..
Hope it's just mad.

Searched and found this thread, didn't want to start a new thread if there was an existing thread with info lol.

Same here, just bought a neon green leather but opened at first without extending its polyps. I then moved him, thinking that there might be too much flow, but it shrunk further and has not opened yet. It's been 3 days though. I will give it more time. Also where should I place it? It may not open, I think, because others might be bothering it such as my camel shrimp and hermits.

i have mine with med flow ..it seems to be ok with that.....also leather dont really need too much light either....i have mine about lower in tank...and give it time it will be ok..sometimes it last up to a week...then it opens up just fine ....dont keep moving it either just leave it alone.....

I don't think you have anything to be worried about. During my tank upgrade I had two softies re-open within a few days while another took over a week. Leathers and most softies for that matter will do this from time to time, especially after transport or during changes. You can try upping the flow toward it. I find during moves and changes they"ll have a "skin" that they shed and a flow increase can help them get rid of it.

I can only seem to keep Fiji Yellow for a year or two. I have a 10 yr old reef and they grow look great and invariably they shrivel and die? ALL others ok. Any tips?
