leather toadstool hosting pair of ocellaris?

i've had a pair of ocellaris a few days now. i'm not expecting anything to host them right off the bat, but i have a toadstool leather i'm hoping they will call home. i'm concerned though because i know they like to sleep in/around the host, but the toadstool pretty much closes and shrinks at lights out. would this affect the clowns from choosing a host at all? should i consider adding something that won't close up as much while the lights are out?

my tank is only a couple months old and as much as i'd love to have an anemone, i'm no where prepared and don't think my tank is quite big enough.

thanks all!

I have 2 tank bred baby ocellaris who just love the frogspawn I have in the tank. They swim in it just like an anemone and even though the frogspawn shrinks by several times at night, they still nestle in it. It's beautiful to watch.

I am a newbie and you would have to check if a frogspawn is suitable for your tank as it is a hard coral but I just love it's swaying in the gentle water flow. It's my first hard coral and it's doing great. I also have a toadstool and the clowns don't go near it.

Have a great day

There is no guarentee that the clowns will even end up hosting the toadstool longterm, or that they will host in whatever else you add, or that they will ever even host at all.

Ive had my various clowns over the years host in everything from a powerhead, to a certain corner of the tank, to a five head candycane frag, to a 2" hairy mushroom.

all corals (and anemones too, for that matter) shrink up at night. it has no bearing on the clowns ability to host in them, it shouldnt be a problem.

To the best of my knowledge clownfish don't host anything at all. It is the corals, anemones that host. I had a large sarcophyton toadstool that hosted a pair of tomato clowns.

I have a toadstool in my 55g that is home to my Clarkii pair. They play in it all day, then spend the night very close to it in the rock work.

ok, cool. thanks all for the responses! :) and i did say that the toadstool will be the host, not the other way around;)
