LED lighting

I have been doing a lot of reading on LED lighting and I was wondering if any of you have them.

Are you growing corals with them? Any noted difference in coral growth?

I am planning on getting them around xmas time. Starting early to do my research,

I just got 2 units a couple of weeks ago. I noticed within a couple of days new growth tips. Also the colors on my corals are great.

Using a BoostLED PAR30 (3B:2W with 60 degree optics, consumes 10W) over my 15XH and several corals have grown considerably, including my small toadstools, mushrooms, open brain, trumpet coral, and my recent green nepthea frag has doubled in size over 2 weeks.

I have a diy fixture that's basically an aqua illuminations the lights awesome and par is great as far as growth I wont know for a few months my tanks sps and well it grows slow

Thanx for all the reports. Looks like there are two ways to go with this. Use a fixture that covers a wide area or get a few lightbulb and do more of a spot lighting.

What do you guys have for pro and cons of both?

Thanx Again

I have a RapidLED Par 38 over my nano. Corals have never looked better. I need some moon lights or something though because it's on or off, no evening light.

If you scroll through this nano TOTM thread, you can see what I have in mind. This is where I got the idea from but I dont know if it'll work yet. I also have a rim on my nano that I could theoretically hide a strip of LED's in, but they would be right at the surface level...I'm not sure if that'll be a good idea. That's just asking for stray voltage - although they are the waterproof ones that are intended to go under a car for "ground effect" or something like that.

I ended up getting the ecoxotic kit.I had a little set back when my heater broke, but I did notice a tremendous difference

I'm doing a DIY build using CREE LEDs. It's nowhere near done though. Hopefully I'll be ordering the rest of the stuff I need in the next few weeks.

Yes I have been using LED's for almost a year and love them. Great growth great color, easy on electric, fully controllable.
I love them.

I am upgrading to a 180 soon and trying to figure out what I want to do with the lighting. Running t5's now and everything is doing great but thinking of adding MH to the mix because of the change in depth. Interested in finding out more about LED's and Plasma lighting.

Cool I was going to ask you some questions about it from the other tread I had started about the Par meter rental :)
