Plus, bad reviews are worth a lot mroe than good ones. If you read two good reviews and one bad one, are you going to buy the fixture?

That is not what you said and I am not sure what the ratio of lovers vs haters is but it is not two to one. I suspect it favors LEDs.

Yes after 6 years with radiums and a lot of research, looking at many tanks I did switch.

I am not arguing with you anymore because you never own up to what you said. You are like my teenage son, evasive. You have to be careful here, you can't say things you can't back up because someone might believe them. At the very least use IMO.

I wish making decisions were that easy to make when basing it off of reviews. For example, the AquaMaxx EM100 I reviewed was a great skimmer, but it had all bad reviews due to the splashing of the output. The directions were wrong, stating to run it in 6-8" of water, instead of 8-10" of water as it should be. No one figured it out, just complained about it. You have to take everything into account when reading reviews. Most people do good brushing their teeth once a day, much less figuring out new equipment

1. It would be extremely strange if in a community as large as this one nobody used leds. Hyperbole is a useful tool.

2. In a situation like that one, any person reading the reviews would just see the "splashing of the output" and not focus on why. I certainly would not get it, as my tank is in my bedroom.

Ive got reef breeders photons over my tank. got them from the group buy on this site.
I can't believe the difference. I always thought I had decent SPS growth with my T-5's now my montis are growing at least 2 times faster than ever before.
I started mine out at 30 percent on each channel and slowly was working my way up to 100% I was at 60 and I had a power outage or something while i was on vacation, came back and the preset power settings were kicked in. that gives it 100% on both channels at the peak daylight hours.
I was a little worried, but I let it go to see how things did and they are growing faster yet.
Not that I'm happy with it resetting like that, but the lights themselves have been great.

I formally apologize for the use of nonliteral wording.

I never stated the ratio was two to one. I said that if you read two good reviews and one bad one, you would not be as likely to get the light or product or whatever.
Even if there are more lovers than haters, IMO the number of haters is enough to sow doubt.

It is such a small point that it's not worth arguing over IMO. When is the word "nobody" ever used literally now? It's impossible to prove that "nobody" does something or other.

Hi All;

I was out of reefing for a few years and now getting back into it. I've been hearing about this new LED lights and would like to know more about them and how are they compared to T5's and metal halides.

My last tank was 65g with 6 T5's. How are LED's compared to them? Are they better for the corals and how would decide how much LED or what type of LED would you need.

I've heard good things about AI and Kessils. I'm setting up a 120g tank and would like to keep a mix reef but mostly LPS. Which one would you recommend and how would you configure it?

I would use LEDs or T5s, you want to go SPS down the road I would add MH to the mix. I think the newer LED systems are cheaper over a period of time and give dawn to dusk setting that really makes your tank an experience. If you have time check out some tanks that have different systems and get a comfort level with your choice.

For a 120g, LED is a good choice. 48 x 24 x 25", correct?
A photon 32 or the Evergrow equivalent with 60* optics would light up the whole thing no problem. You could go for a photon 48 if you don't want to see it shorter than the tank.

Very good light choice. I use 2 of the EverGrow IT2080's. And you don't need and probably don't want 60 degree lenses. The stock 90's will work just fine over a 24" deep tank. The 60's may pinch the light to much and keep the ends of the tank from being well lit and may also create some spot lighting if you hang it close to the water. IMHO.

You are right. I wasn't sure what lenses came on the Evergrow stock.
You could potentially go no optics or 120* optics, but PAR at the bottom would be a tad low.
