well right now I am in the research stage of getting a clam I have a 90 gal mixed reef and I just purchased a 48 in photon reefbreeder led lite (don't even have it yet) and I wanted to know if I can use an led for a clam it seems all the threads recommend halides

I was thinking of getting a Tridacna Gigas unless someone thinks otherwise

LEDs will be fine. I have a maxima that is thriving with LEDs for a couple of years. Also I think the gigas doesn't need as much light?

awesome thanks for the reply it will be a couple months before I get one want to get and acclimate what I have with new light and make sure my phos and nitrates stay down tank is a little over a year and I am batteling some gha want everything rite before I add a clam or anything

I have a deresa in the sand bed, and a blue maxima around midway up in my 75g and I have 2 photon16s over my tank. They have been doing great.

I have 2 squamosas under my ai blues, they are only running at 55% max .They have been growing really good.Btw,good luck finding a gigas,I have been looking for 2yrs and have not found one yet.

Thanks for the answers I am actually impatiently waiting for my lite to arive today can't wait to see the difference
Are the maxima clams on the easier side of clams

i have a crocea that has been under LED's for several months at this point, and about 6 weeks ago added a derasa. both seem to be quite happy.

i am running two AI Vegas over my 75. the derasa is on the sand bed, the crocea about halfway up in the rock work, although he may be getting moved higher due to some space constraints with a large euphyllia.
