I read this in a past thread and i couldn't really do it until around this time of year since the blue LED rope lights were sold out last year. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

i just bought a 48" 120 blue led strip off ebay for like 6 bucks with shipping sent from china. it only took 2 weeks to get them. they are intended for automotive use so you do need a 12v converter, unfortunately this cost as much as the leds. just kinda held it over the tank with the other lghts off to see until i attatch it, and all i could say is WOW! really makes things pop. definatly worth the 15 bucks total.

i also bought a white set, and when combined puts off a nice color of dim light. i'll probably add timers to the new additions and go something like this...

moonlghts
blue led strip 30min
white led strip 30 min later
actinics 30 min after that
daylight 1 hour after that
...and opposite at night.

should be a nice suttle wakeup and bedtime transition for all the critters.

brings out the fluorescents almost like actinics. just not quite as bright as they are smaller, lower intensity leds, but everythings not 'glaring' in blue like actinics seem to do with my eyes. but thats just my opinion.

thanks for the responses. These are the christmas LED rope lights that you can get only this time of year. I have 4 - 9'-0" in my 6 ft tank. i placed them in my canopy using an expandable shower rod and wrapped the LED them around it. I am going to buy 2 more but waiting til it goes for 50% off...after xmas (right now they are 11.99 at target). i am going to try to stagger them with timers like you have done Millireef. Having them all on at once is really bright and i dont think it would let the critters sleep.

This is one of the cheapest thing i have added to my tank that really makes it pop.
