LED options for my 120.

I am going from halides to LEDs in August and am weighing the options. i am 99.9% sure i want radions, but want to know, are there any better LEDs? Anyone hete have the RADIONS?

The Kessil A350W's look pretty nice for the price. But they're fairly new so there's much much documentation on PAR levels or growth rates. (But isn't that the case with most LEDs these days?)

I have the Sunshine Systems AquaUFO over my reef at the store, and I've had awesome growth, health and color underneath them. Plus, they're only $330 apiece, they cover a 2'x2' section of tank, and have absolutely no problem punching 30" down to the bottom of the tank.

I'm not going to sit here and say they're better than the Radions; they have less features after all. But they're plenty powerful, and less than half the price.

thats where you're wrong...they are upgradeable but when you already have 10 colors as opposed to the radions 5 colors plus pac sun is one of the only manufacturers to use the cree xm-l led right now. Each led bank is 150w which means you would probably need 3 radions to equal the same wattage as the pac sun. So I am really not sure where you think the radions are more advanced than the pac sun fixtures. Granted I am biased because I own one and absolutely love it so my opinions are definitely biased.

How much would it be to have the pace suns lift my 120? 2000$?

Hands down, they are very, very cool.

I actually got to meet these guys at global pet expo last year when they set up a booth there. awesome products! extremely nice people.

If i were to go LED there is no way I wouldn't go with these guys. and I am actually still trying to get the money up to go with them, lol, but my lights work great and its still a lot of cash :(

also another thing about these guys, do some research and you will find that they have a TON of experience with LED and a LOT of people trust this company with a TON of cash crops. They just broke into our scene, but have been a major player in the hydroponics scene.

food for thought :)

Yup and you would probably get away with only 2 radions on 120 if its 48" long so you are looking at about a $400 difference in price by the time you get done with hanging kits. The software might not be as advanced as the Radions but the hardware is way ahead. When I was looking for my leds fixtures I didn't care about thunderstorms and cloud cover because no one has been able to tell me that those features will help my sps grow better. Keep in mind that Pac Sun has been importing and growing corals since 2002 and producing LED lamps since 2008. They test all of their products on their own grow out tanks. Yeah they aren't cheap but you are getting an led light that produces a look that has fooled some die hard mh users when they looked at my tank.

The lighting decision was the most difficult decision for me when I was building my tank. I have seen a lot of radions for sale on here and I know a couple of that bought them when they first came out and sold them to go a different route because they didn't like the look of them and there are people on here that absolutely love them. Its not going to be an easy decision.

You are talking about the radions right? I love the radions. The pacific suns are ridiculously priced.

actually I was speaking about the Sunshine Systems AquaUFO lights :wavehand:

ultimately you have to choose a lighting system that fits you and your tank, meaning a balance between 3 things:

1) what your animals need
2) what you "want"
3) your budget

unless you have deep pockets you can cross out #2 and balance between what your animals need and how much cash you can comfortably spend. Like I said, the only reason I have not gone LED with Sunshine Systems is due to money :headwallblue: until then, I must stick with T5HO lights and my animals are happy, so I am content :lol2:

Then you got to meet Larry and David Lass. Larry is the owner of the company, and while he can be a little difficult to work with sometimes, it's mostly because he's a stickler for details. They've been working with me in developing an LED retrofit system for the DAS brand of retail display tanks, and Larry's been putting his best brain cells towards getting it designed.

David Lass used to deliver fish to my store (he used to be a fairly prominent angelfish breeder back in the day) until surgery forced him into something less strenuous. If you've ever a problem with their products, David will make it better, no questions asked. He and I have been working pretty closely with each other for the development of their reef and freshwater plant lights, and he's just as eager to improve these products as I am.

No, I'm not affiliated with the company, nor do I receive any cut of profits from them for the sales of lights. But, take my recommendation as someone who has 15+ AquaUFOs over his tanks in his fish room...these lights are good, and are only going to get better with further iterations.

I also have Pac sun and think they are great. I looked at the radions and almost bought them. My LFS uses 3 radions on a 280 and they looked great, however the coral did not respond well. Now they added Acans(also a good led maker) to the Radions and the coral are doing much better. This is why i bought the Pac Sun. If you compare $ to power and colors i think Radions are more expensive than Pac Sun. I would have needed 5 or 6 radions to cover my tank vs 2 34 inch metis pacsun leds, same cost and power, less colors. My sps are growing and coloring beautifully!!!

Radions are proven to grow corals. It was not the radions fault more than likely at the LFS. I have read wonderful reviews of them. I like the pace sun a lot also, but the price is WAY out of my range.....that's a rich man's light.
