i currently run my 40B sps/clam tank under 2- 250w phoenix's with a stunner i use for dawn/dusk. im looking into doing a dimmable DIY LED (actinic) strip mainly to replace stunner for dawn/dusk (plus reduce halide time), but also possibly to run in conjunction with halides so would like to be strong enough to be noticeable. right now i am looking at doing 50% royal blue and 50% 420nm.

but the questions are how many LED's would do an adequate job and would50% royal blue and 50% 420nm be a good color combo for actinic supplement? also if its worth putting more money into it to run 2 drivers so i can dim them seperately?

so many possibilities...
thanks

did you ever do this? I am looking to as well make 60" rails with a mix of RB's & TV's..

Thinking like 10 RB's & 5 TV's or 8RB's & 7 TV's per rail ran via an inventronics driver at 700mA?

Muan that looks sweet. I too have phoenix 14k's. What setting on the lumatek u using and what led driver and mA? So no true violets huh. What optics and how far apart are the led's

I finished the leds last week. i ended up with 9 RB and 10 420nm leds. (no optics yet) they are run separately on meanwell ELN-60-48P dimmable drivers. the max MA for the RB's is 750ma and the max on the 420nm's is 550ma.for the phoenixs i run them on the normal 250w setting of the lumatek. im mainly using them for dusk lighting at the moment.
also, i currently am thinking of swapping the de for se halides and getting radiums. but, im not sure exacty how theyd look with the lumateks.
they are pretty hard to photograph.. ill work on comparison photos too

Happy Sak,

Very awesome looking colors and corals! :bounce3:

What is your lighting consist of? bulbs, reflectors and balast, type LED's and optics and which drivers and at what mA?

Also do you have a build thread or anything?

Looking good! How do you like the look of the 420nm led's?

You have a lot of light for sure.....

i know i have too much light. i only keep the halides on for 5 hrs as it is. some of the sps are pretty pale so im going to try out some 20k's i think. the 420nm are realy cool alone. they make some corals realy glow but IMO the RB's realy overpower them. but i am realy happy with them though since i use them for dusk lighting. im going to work on more accurate photos too

So do you like the mix of about 50:50 RB & TV?

I was debating: 10 RB & 5 TV or 8 RB & 7 TV..... seems like the later is more ideal?
