LEDs are they the future?

I think best bang for your buck are the reef brites LEDs.

At 250$ a 48" fixture, i think they are great.

I switched from a 60" ATI Sunpower to 4 48" reef brites and wow are they nice.

The corals are loving it.

I love the growth and color rendition. The sunrise and sunset effects and low power consumption are incredible! I am currently building a new LED fixture for a new tank upgrade!

I own an aquarium maintenance co. in Tulsa and I've been upgrading a few tanks to LED and I just put two orphek lights over a new 4' deep tank. I've used several of the Orange County reef LED boxes with 3w dimable CREE lights. I love them. I've only used the 60 degree spread but now I have some of the 90degree spread. I just put together a 36'' deep tank and it is 60'' long and I have 3 of these OCreef LED boxes which are about 15'' x 5'' over the top and they ROCK!

The Orpheks are cool too but don't dim :thumbdown They have a real sleek design and work really well even at 4 feet! They are a little on the white side visually and I'm going to run 2 supplimental VHO actinics along with them.

Over all, I'd say yes LED is the future. I'm going to light all my grow out systems with the OCreef Led fixtures. $350 a pop isn't bad either. Oh, I also put one of these fixtures suspended 12'' over my sister in-laws 29gal reef and it is awesome! one side benefit too is that there is no glare when mounted that high.
