LEDs For 300

Hi all,

We are in the planning stages of a 300 gallon reef aquarium and would like to hear some ideas and solutions to using only LED lighting. The tank is going to be 96" x 24" x 30" tall.

I would like to hear from others that have LED only and what products were used, as well as what it will cost to properly set this configuration up.

Thanks,

Steve

I currently have a 300 gallon reef trank. 72"x36"x27". 3 400 watt metal halide and 1 72" reefbrite led. I am contemplating converting to all led. It would probably take another 5 72" led fixtures at a cost around $2,500. I will follow along with this thread and hope another hobbyist has a good idea.

I am in the market for the same thing, my 300 gl 8 ft. tank just cycled.dont want to lose my corraline algae on my vanuatu and indo rock.
LED lighting is a must for me, acrylic tank with low canopy. any help greatly appreciated.

My 300 is 31" high and the lighting is the final thing for me to finish. Any kind of fixtures becomes cost-prohibitive when you figure we'd need at least 4 of them.

I'm thinking it's time to learn all about LED's and make a nice DIY light rack out of top of the line crees. Take a look at this thread: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1952442

Some great info over there...People with 300g+ almost need to go DIY to make it work out and really, aren't we that kind of people anyway? I know I am. I built my new tank piece by piece the way I wanted it. Might as well do the same for the lighting.

I'm considering having the lights up on the ceiling with tight beams. Top of the tank is only 4 feet from the ceiling anyway. I saw a couple DIY LED projects awhile back that had exactly that. The lights were way above the tank but the beams were so tight that only the tank got illuminated...and quite nicely too if I can remember. It was very clean and nice looking.

Maybe not but I'm going to at least do it like the thread I linked.
