LED's in Reef Tanks

Salty One

Is anyone running some of these newer LED fixtures that are on the market? Do you like them? I realize that the power and heat are reduced but looking for some first hand knowledge on how corals grow under them! From what I read they have the shimmering effect same as MH that you lose with T5.:reading:

I am building a setup right now with 12 cree xre's for my 37 gal. I don't need a ton of light because i am only doing LPS. Hopefully my heatsink will be done getting drilled tomorrow and i'll be able to get it wired up and running thursday. I tested a couple out over the tank and the shimmer is crazy. looks awesome. From everything i read, people have great success with growing everything including sps under them if you have the right amount and lenses. You can save a ton of money by building them yourself rather than buying the pre-made ones.

I have the Ecoxotic panorama fixtures over my 65. I dot know about the newer LEDs out on the market, but I know mine don't reach the bottom too well for the sps although it does say that. Colors look great on all the corals, especially with the 453nm panoramas. With my new project however I'm goin to try t5s.

I'm debating whether or not I want to. Once I move out I kinda want to do an octo tank with it. Not sure though. We'll see when the time comes.

I am running a ecoray 60 on my 27, great shimmer and color. I have read and seen a lot of positive things. Go to youtube and just start searching led salt tanks, you will see and learn a lot.

took apart a 4 ft andf a 5 foot units

I'm running a G2 maxspect 110w on my 32 gallon and the corals are doing great. I had a 150MH and upgraded to LEDs. I am very pleased with the coral growth and the colors look stunning under the LEDs.
