crap. left the RO water on last night. Before I found out it dump 60 gal on fresh water into the system. Dropped salinity from 1.026 to 1.020. Some of the inverts were not too happy. I guess I better install that auto-top off before the next mishap.
That sucks NeonFish. Sorry for your mishap. I think every reefer does this or something like it at least once. You are fortunate that your salinity is still 1.020.
I learned a while back to never put RO/DI water directly from the filter into my water system, and to always set a timer when I start some water filtering. I filter into containers and then topoff from containers. That way no more than one container's worth of water ever goes into the system at a time.
I'd suggest going slowly bringing your salinity back up. Maybe use salt water to replenish evaporation until your system is back up to 1.025. I'd avoid changing your system's salinity more than .002 per day.
thanks for the advice. I keep 20 gals of SW available all the time. Never know when it is needed. So far, I've lost 2 cleaner shrimp and my xenia has crashed. Some may survive. Everything else looks stressed, except for the fish. THey appear to be unaffected.
