Lemon Peel angel not lookin so good.

Well, heres the scenario, i went to bed last night just after i installed my protein skimmer and everything was lookin great.

wake up this morning and my lemon peel angel is laying on his side breathing heavily.

without disturbing him i peeked around and saw to very small rust/brown marks on him. one on his anal fin, the other on the middle of his left side.

as of now, its been about three hours he still hasnt moved, just lays there and breaths heavily

the only thing in the tank that has happened aside from adding the protein skimmer is that i saw a breif amonia spike a few days ago. Ive been doing 10% water changes each night to combat this, and the current amonia level is just above zero.

any help or suggestions on this matter would be greatly appreciated

ps. he has been in the tank for about 3 weeks now. eating fine, gets along with tank mates fine etc...

Sounds like it is slowly succumbing to less than perfect water quality.

Low ammonia and nitrites don't always have an acute or immediate affect on the fish. Over a period of time these conditions will stress the fish until its limit is reached. Each fish has its own limit.

I suggest not putting fish in your aquarium until it is settled down and able to handle the bioload without spikes of ammonia or nitrite.

This is a sensitive fish, definately not for beginners or new tanks. Ammonia in the water will damage delicate gills tissues and cause stress. The stress can lead to suppressed immune function which often results in disease, especially bacterial infection.
You should probably move the fish to quarantine (do not remove from water) and treat with hyposalnity and a good antibiotic.

yea, i had a feeling thats what the problem was. damn LFS said it would be cool to add the LR right away. guess they were wrong. its just strange that is has such a negative effect on him, yet none of my other livestock
