Lemonpeel in QT with copper

Hello all,

About a week ago my DT had an ich outbreak, my fish are currently in a QT tank with Cupramine and have been for the past week.

I have been looking to add one last fish to my tank and found a beautiful Lemonpeel on LA DD. I would like to add him to the QT with the other fish so they can go through quarantine together and be put in the DT together to eliminate any territory problems.

My question/concern is...is it ok to add a dwarf angel to a QT tank that is already at the therapeutic level of copper which is right now between 0.4-0.5mg/L? Perhaps dilute the copper level down to 0.35?

Or should I set up a separate QT tank just for the angel? only issue with that is I only have the one extra heater and filter which is being used with the other QT.

Or should I just forget about the Lemonpeel and worry about adding another fish until the others are done with their treatment?

Thanks in advance!

Lemonpeel in QT with copper

Angels are sensetive to copper. So directly adding it to that much of copper might not end well. They don't generally respond very well to copper, so it would be better if you consider another method altogether (such as ttm).

Keep in mind, they are also one of the least reef safe dwarf angels.

Just to echo the above; centropyge angels react terribly (worse than the larger angels) to copper treatments. I would hold off for now or consider a separate qt rather than modifying an existing treatment and potentially putting them at risk.

Thanks guys I appreciate the input, I understand that the dwarf angels are not all that reef safe, luckily it will be going into a fowlr tank :p

I think I'm going to just set up another QT just for the angel and perform ttm

Plus adding a, hopefully, disease free fish to a QT being used to treat other fish with ich is really not a sensible thing to do. LemonPeel Angels are also not all that easy to get eating, so minimizing initial stress is important.

TTM - Yes. And for all new fish. Always!

You do realize that it is a 72 fishless (fallow) period for the DT?

Yes I understand that it's 72 days fallow, the tank went fallow on August 29th so I should be good to go on October 26th

BTW thanks for all the help everyone but I decided against the Lemonpeel and went with a Flame he's currently in his tank awaiting his first transfer which should be Thursday as I just received him today.

Great

A Marine Betta is a new fish to me (even after 15 years I don't know them all.
Looked interesting but had to laugh a bit as they describe the fish as "peaceful" in their bullet point but in the narrative it states " however, it will eat all small fish and shrimp". Any issues with that?

I had a cleaner shrimp in the tank for a while with the betta, never bothered it, in fact he went up and got regular cleanings from the shrimp. I will say though that the shrimp was in the tank before the betta was so that may have helped, I haven't tried putting any other shrimp in since. He does however eat raw shrimp that I cut into cubes and he sucks those things down like a hoover so I'm sure if I decided to add another shrimp it most likely wouldn't last long.

As far as fish go, I haven't had anything small enough that would fit in its mouth so I can't really say for sure if it would eat small fish. I will say this though, he hasn't shown any signs of aggression towards any of the his tank mates and he seems very docile, pretty much only comes out of his hiding spot to eat.

He loves his shade that's for sure, doesn't like being out when the lights are at their peak intensity but once dusk starts to hit he's out a about. only flares his fins when he sees his reflection.
