It appears the cost for used lenses of the tamron 90 mm 1:1 were about a hundred dollars more 375 vs 275

Is this a normal trend?

Since i have not decided on my purchase this would influence my decision.

A local trip to sams to get tires yesterday i browsed the camera isle and noticed nikon seemed less expensive for similar camera entry points dslr..

Thank you:dance:

First thing, there are cameras from both brands at pretty much all price points. You only checked Sams, they can't carry all of them. About the lenses, they are constructed differently. You will have to check to see if the Nikon Tamron will auto focus on that camera, you won't have that problem with Canon. Lastly, if you're making decisions on lens and camera purchases based on a hundred bucks, you're gonna be in for a big surprise sooner or later. Photography ain't for the faint of heart when it comes to spending money.

If you still really want to go for it, go in the opposite direction. Purchase a used body, and look into good lenses, (nothing against the Tamron though, it ain't too bad). Always buy the best glass you can.

And to that note...as an owner of the Tamron 90/2.8...it's a very quality macro lens for the price-point. There are a lot of photogs I've come across who go to this lens as their #2 choice if they can't swing the $$$ for the Nikon/Canon produced lens. The Sigma 150mm is supposedly a very excellent macro lens as well but I have no direct experience with it.

By the way, when pricing gear check out places like B&H Photo and Adorama. THEN review the pricing at other places and see what seems correct. You could have unknowingly been pricing two completely different versions of the lens and I don't mean Nikon/Canon...you could have been pricing an older model versus a newer model, or a "well used" versus "slightly used/like new". Lots of small details you have to look for when shopping the used market for camera gear.

I'm with Jesse. After the number of years that I have been a mere hobbyist in photography I'm still shell-shocked at the pricing for new gear. Oye vey! And you thought reef keeping could get costly!

I shoot Canon and use the Tamron 90mm macro lens its pretty good for reef shots but still waiting to purchase the 100mm L series macro lens by Canon for shooting alot more . I would like to give it a try on Portraiture and see if it delivers the bokeh I have grown accustom to . Anyone try the tamron shooting portraits?

I am looking into getting the Tamron 90mm 1:1 f2.8 as well. I was wondering if anyone could post some photographs taken with this lens?
