I am looking to purchase a macro/micro lens . My camera is a Nikon D80 . I would like a good quality lens at a price that wont kill me. I know this is a lot to ask for ,if I have to pay more for a highly recomended lens I would be willing .
I would like to say thanks in advance and if its possible can you please post a picture taken from recomended lens . If its a recomendation and you dont own it I would still really apreciate the advice , Thanks Paul

What are you looking to use the lens for? What's your budget like? For a general "walk-around" lens for pretty inexpensive I'd recommend the Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5. I've only went shooting with mine a couple of times as I just recently bought it, but I've been pretty impressed with the sharpness.

Here are a couple pics:

You can pick one up for about $160 used.

Another recommendation would be the 50mm f/1.8. Its great for portraits and low lighting, and probably my favorite lens. (And its 110 brand new!)

Im looking for a macro, real close uo in tank shots .Paul

Guess I missed seeing that in your post the first time around. I don't have experience there, except I've heard good things about the Tamron 90mm, Nikkor 105mm and Sigma 150mm

the best lens is going to be the nikon 105 macro. It has an f stop of 2.8, which will be the largest aperature made for a macro.

To go for a micro lens, you need either a reversal ring, (which allows you to mount the lens backwards, but none of your auto controls will work) or a set of extention tubes, a set of closeup filters, or a bellows unit. But each has the disadvantage of making the depth of field REALLY narrow, and you can loose a LOT of light gathering abilities. The further away your lens is from your camera, the more light you need, which is why you need a lens with a LARGE aperature.

I have a Nikon D70. After doing a lot of research on which macro lens to buy, I decided on the Nikon 110 macro. It may be just because I have a bowfront tank, but I can't get any reasonable macro pictures unless I stand a couple feet away from the glass, otherwise the depth of field is just way too small.

So then I tried the Nikon 60mm macro. This is a much better choice for me with my digital camera as I can pick up a greater depth of field with this lens.

Good luck!

There is also the 200mm which gets you closer, but its an f/4

Look for used lenses you can get the 105 for $450. ish but the 200 will cost you 950 or more.

Thanks All. Can someone who has one of these lenses post up some pictures they shot with them. Also a prce on the lenses. Thanks Again
