Lense quastion

My dad just gave me an old 35mm camera that came with a lot of different lenses. Back in its day, it was a very high end camera.

Dumb question as I am new to photography, are lenses universal and if so, will traditional 35mm lenses work with an SLR?

Depends on the camera. What is it?

Its an old vivitar. The camera itself has to be 20+ yrs old. However the lenses look brand new.

That's probably a Pentax K-mount which Pentax still uses. How functional they'd be I can't say.
