Leonardo's Formosa Forest 2

Well next tuesday's come and gone... any photos to share. ;)

:D I'm feeling the pressure!

I did A LOT of water changes this week. 20% waterchange three times, with a day in between.
All the rock has been taken out and blasted with a powerhead to remove sediments and detritus. I also replaced the RDSB with two new, fresh ones.
All the corals were treated with Revive. Didn't found any pests :)

I'm about to buy a lot of super glue this afternoon, so I can glue some corals.
I'll have some photo's later tonight or tomorrow.

Spent the last hour perusing your website/blog. Very impressive, Leonardo! Love the format, the design, the content. :)

BTW: what are you using for your comments?

Thanks Tom :) I'm far from happy with it myself. It needs lot more info, experiences etc. But that will come in time. The new tank will give me much to write about :)
I've send you a PM.

Good luck Leo! Man, seeing those pix of Hong Kong really reminds me of how much I missed that place. It's been a long time since I've been back.

Yes, pictures please. I'd also like to know what you did with regards to adding the Royal Blue LED's. Thanks.

Sorry guys! I've been so busy (who is'nt), it all got delayed a little. The aquascape finally starts to look like something. I took some photo's of the part that is done. I will shoot some FTS when the whole tank is ready, although I noticed I'm almost never satisfied with how it looks and it makes things only go slower... But, here are some pictures. I will tell a bit more about them under the photo itself. Thanks for the patience and viewing :)

The part of the tank that looks ok, have to attach some more corals on some spots.

A very nice Lemon yellow/Green A. Prostrata.

An Aussie Wildcap. Hard to capture it on photo, but it has a green hue on it.

Looks similar to the "ORA Hawkins". Hope that the center will continue to lighten up.

Very thick, plating Acropora.

Thanks Kenny. I will go back to China and Hong Kong in February. Can't wait! :)

Pictures!!! :D

Since I don't want to make this a useless post,
What do you use for your CUC?
For CUC I use some Trochus snails, Mexican turbo snail (Turbo Fluctuosa). Of course my Salarias Fasciatus also does a fantastic job cleaning the tank.

Leonardo, I currently have two 250 watt Phoenix 14K bulbs in Lumenarc reflectors and two 54 watt ATI Blue Plus T5's. I want to switch to all T5's. I will be housing 90% SPS dominated and some LPS corals. Can I get away with the six bulb ATI Sunpower or do I need the 8 bulb? I see the TEK Elite fixture (6 bulb combo) uses three fans and the Sunpower uses two fans. Could you recommend a bulb combo for me that isn't too white/yellow? I would like a 16-18K look, I was thinking three ATI Blue Plus, one ATI Aquablue Special and two ATI Purple Plus. The Powermodule uses three fans. Is the new TEK better than the Sunpower?

Thanks Sayed!
Thanks Mr Milt!

Joost; It is the same Acanthurus Triostegus. I have him for at least 4 years now :)

Ricky; I don't know the TEK fixture because it is not distributed in the EU. I know the Sunpower (with two fans) have sufficient cooling, even on hot summer days.
The bulb-ends stay at the desired temperature. (35 C)
I highly recommend the Sunpower pendants. They are well build, house very good ballasts, reflectors etc. The price/quality is better then the Powermodulde IMO (they're cheaper and almost as good :) ).
When you consider the TEK, check the quality of the reflectors and make sure it cools the ballasts AND the bulb ENDS.
I'm not the guy that constantly changes bulbs. I've used the Fiji and ATI Purple+ bulbs and I don't like them. Red's are a bit better but overall the corals look browner.
I suggest to go for 50%-50% Blue+ AquaBlue Special. This will give you a balanced spectrum, not too blue or white, and won't wash out any color. PAR will be great also. The more bulbs the better, so I would suggest to use as many as possible. This way you have some room for lower PAR bulbs, like Actinics. Just ask if you have any more questions! :)

Ricky I'm not sure if you know but ATI has just released the 8 bulb version of sunpower. Don't know if it's already available in States.
Sorry for the offtopic Leo, the tank looks nice, hope to see the FTS soon.
