Leonardo's Lagoon

Beautiful, are various crabs part of your stocking plans? Maybe i'm partial, but I think it would add a lot of character to have a couple crabs making their way across all your open reefscape.

Leonardo,
This tank is coming along very nicely. I have been following it sense the formosa forest. I hate to say it but, I have to say I am a little unhappy to see so many montipora species dominating this aquarium so far. I was thinking you'd be showcasing more of the "reef crest" aquarium corals.

I do like your idea of "nano" fish and inverts in the aquarium, I'm a fan of Elacatinus sp. in reef aquariums.

Great job!

Very nice... if it turn out anything like your last tank this will be a great tank too.

Thank you all for the reactions!

Ryan; I definitely want some reef safe crabs in this tank :)

Brian, thanks you. You're right, this tank is far from finished, but I think I found it's final form now. Because I had a lot of Large Montipora from the previous tank, and lost mostly Acropora during the disaster, the tank seems to be Montipora dominated now.
This will be changed by buying new top selection Acropora species, that I'll grow to large colonies. Because there will be not enough room for a lot of corals, these corals have to be very nicely colored, and not easy to find.
The mediocre colored Acropora in the tank now, and also some of the Montipora, will gradually be replaced.

No problems with that, I have a large space around them and kept the flow direction into account with the placement of the corals.

Leo, your system is looking great!

I love the simplicity and open space of the design.

You and Ed have me really thinking that my next rimless tank should be a peninsula styled one. ;)

Bravo Leo, bravo.

In August, I will start a new job with a Dutch company based in Austin, TX. Perhaps I will visit sometime in the future. I will let you know if that happens.

Thanks Sonny, like Ed said, can't wait for you interpretation of this type of tank!

Thank you Chris, you're always welcome.

Thanks Leopard Man, I have about 40 pound of liverock in the sump. Together with the Supermarine 250 skimmer I'm confident that I can handle the (future) bioload :)

Looking awesome! I'm glad another reefer is going the nano species with a large tank. This is what I am going to do with my upgrade!

Couple cool nano relationships that would look great in yours....

Yellow Clingfish/ Long Spine Urchin
Goby/Pistol Shrimp
Acro Crabs/Acro's/Birdsnest
Small Dart Gobys/Acros and other SPS

Awesome! :)

OK, Leo. I want a very minimalistic look to my tank too, but don't have the water volume as you do, but may try it and see how it goes. Thanks.

Leo,

Is your lighting fixture always run that high up or did you raise it only for the pictures?

It just looked really high to me....

Leonardo

Looking good!

Was wondering which route you have taken for your timers on your lighting.

Thanks

Kevin

Very nice. Everything is plan accordingly. You should shift your light more toward the day-light spectrum (or is it just T5 only?), it's a little too blue for a shallow sunny lagoon. :)

The sand is perfect. What kind is it and how deep?

Dave; After my vacation I will begin stocking and will search for more creatures. Thanks for the info!

Leopard Man; Good luck, keep us updated!

Sunny; It is always this high. Even with the Lumenarcs, I don't have any spilling of light. Spread is very good right now, and the intensity of the 400 Watters not too high in this shallow water.

Kevin; Thanks! I still have the double-timer as a temporary remedy, I'm still looking for heavy-duty timers.

dzhuo; Thank you. The light is more crisp white in person, and I really like a bit of blue, that's why I burn the Aqua Connect bulbs.
The sand is a mix of different sizes dry Aragonite (without a brand, LFS) mixed with one bag of Caribsea Reef-Grade. it is about 0.4" - 0.8" deep, varying in different areas.

I will be on vacation to France for two weeks, so I'm not able to answer PM etc in this period.
In the meantime, happy reefing and I'll see you again at the end of august!
