Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon meleagris) driving me nuts... stirring up sand

Have had him now all of three days. He seems to be aclimated and getting along with all others.

He seems to poke his head out just after the actinics turn on then an hr or so is out swimming about. a few hrs later he seems to burry himslef only to come out a few seconds later. He seems to do this every 10 mins or so in different spots.

Not sure why he is doing this? Looking for a next resting place or what? Will this go on forever or stop soon. Making the tanka mess, covering lower stuff with sand and making tank cloudy! Plus can't be best for OM & CLS.

I do have a melanarus wrasse and a six line wrasse which i added Friday as well with him. Plus a few blue green chromis, cleaner wrasse and a mandarain goby. Again everyone is getting along and no fighting.

I bet it will chill out. My leopards are model citizens and do a little "flashing" on the bottom now and again but do not create problematic sand storms as a rule. I think you should be happy to have a healthy and acclimated leopard. Fear not! Best reef fish ever.

i have three a choati, potters and black leopard. they all every once in a while rub on the sand but nothing major, my choati will dive in the sand and will come back out about an hour later and stays out for the majority of the day. hes probably still spooked. my first leopard stayed burried for a week so i think you will be fine

Ok, I also ordered a m. bipartitus (divided african leopard wrasse) of which I have yet to see that came in with these other guys. Hopefully he is just spooked still and will appear soon!

Yeah I hope he chills out.

Not sure if anyone will respond to this old thread. My leopard wrasse is doing the same thing. I've had him for two years but have recently upgraded systems and added old and new fish to the new system in a matter of a few days. Four fish. 165 gallon.

I guess my question is will this stop or does the wrasse need to get pulled?

I had black Leopard wrasse that would do it every so often thought he was stirring up the sand for food never gave it much tought other than corals getting dusted with sand had him for years before he died a few months ago
