Leslies Rimless 5ft

Very clean look. The wavebox is a new concept to me, but thanks to you I may incorporate it in my next tank.

What size tank are is your livestock in now?

thank you, the waveboxes are available from Tunze they have a nano and a larger model available, worth looking into, i just dident want to have any more clutter in the tank than i needed.

my livestock are sitting in a 1.5 x .700 x .400 holding tank atm.

hiya Leslie,

first up...great idea on the built in wavebox..very innovative...you should patent it buddy

wouldnt u be adding more wavemakers? That is if ur planning on a SPS dominated setup

the aquascape....looks much better with the epoxied scape design...

Any plans on Zeovit?

I am also in the process of building my piece of the ocean,,,,

Pls do check on my thread....suggessions welcome everyone...

Good luck to ya.... :)

ok so got the light frame home and bolted it to the stand and fitted the T5 unit.. as you can see the unit is very discreet, i have hung it pretty low to avoid excess light spillage and to get maximum penetration..

still only 4 tubes..

hi there, i will be adding a 2 6105's to compliment the wavebox action, but i want a slow motion of flow nothing too turbulent happening all of the time only the occasional "storm surge" flow actions.

Im an LPS fan so nutruents are mt friend to a degree but i will play a little withbio pellets on a quarter or half dose.. just to see if it polishes the system with that little bit extra..

im also planning on a clam or 2 so i dont completley want to strip nitrates, but the phosphates can go by all means :)

ok so the tank is 3/4 way filled up, i did the unthinkable and got water from the aquarium but Tim was kind enough to pump straight from the sea rather than the shark and Ray pool which is badly infested (and i maen Badly) with aptasia. There is enough water in to test the wavebox and so far it is working perfectly with the limited amount of water its in..

Tank is still murky owing to me not washing the aragonite, but im happy with that.. it will take a day or so to settle..

LR pieces will be placed in as soon as i can see whats going on...

pic to follow a little later

so here are the pics,

before filling and to illustrate the power of the sun over the T5's

and one to show the murkiness of the water due to the aragonite...

Tank has cleared up, been running filter floss in a Skimz FM100 reactor and its worked wonders..

good news glass for the sump has arrived so i will start with the build this evening..

pics to follow asap

here is a pic to shw the 4 x 54w T5 working

My Skimz FB filter stuffed with filter floss to assist in clearing the murkiness.

and the sump i built this evening, took me 2 hours. i still need to add glass for compartments and drill a few holes..

gorgeous sump can you snap a few more pictures? specifically of the arae where the reactor and skimmer is sitting.

Keep posting pictures otherwise this thread makes me sad

Will do, still have a few more pieces of glass to add so will measure those this evening and order. i have a tonne of glass in my garage im wanting to use up so will just send that in to be cut..

:hmm5:

well i have been fiddling a little more with the sump,i havent glued the partitions in yet but here are some progress pics..

and a pic of the tank cleared, i lent a friends wavebox to see if there was a difference in the wave action and there wasnt, i suppose i will have to wait till the tank is full to properly assess the wave... the surface is too distorted from the 2 6105;s flow

AHA I SEE NOW!!! The skimmer and stuff is external, but still sits on the bottom sheet of glass!!

That sump is interesting/sexy (did i really just say that about a glass tank lol)

Wow this is so inspiring. I am starting a 130 built in cube and after reading what you are doing will be changing some of my design.

ha ha yep you did, glad you like..

very exciting times, glad you like it, and i could help :) i will try be more detailed in the pictures for your benefit.

In all honesty there is a young gent here in Joburg, South Africa that started this concept, His Name is Ardiaan De Beer... he has some mad skills where tank and sump construction is concerned and i have just assessed his basic concept and applied the equipment i need for my system..

it is a nice neeat engine room and i have tried to make it a complete unit to adoid trying to replumb in the event of a move..

ok so where to start, alot has happened..

added probio biodigest to the system on saturday, finished the sump and installed it and pumped water over from the holding tank as we are having floods here and i couldent collect..

got everything going and fish stabalised and then the trouble started..

i had glued the end partition in the sump too high and when i put the pump off it nearly overflowed out the sump.. i had to remove the partition and leave the entire back as the return chamber..

the pellets were floating out of the bio pelet reactor and into the skimmer, causeing some trouble, and i had accidentally cracked a fitting when modifying the reactor to take 2 20mm pipe instead of the 10mm so i had this continious leak to contend with which i patched with calcium powder and super glue..

to top it all off the front pane of glass has a 4mm bow.. and im considering replacing it with a piece of 19mm.. just waiting for the glazer to get back to me with a price..

it just never ends and nearly got a hammer thrown at it..

will post pics and vids in the next half hour or so...

ok so it was the wifes birthday today.. but still managed to get some work done on the tank yesterday and fiddled a little today..

i started with cladding the stand..

i got home from surf patrol and something looked odd with the pellet reactor.. on closer inspection i saw the the flow was not pushing through the entire mass of pellets only the front.. the back pellets had somehow clumped together.. so i decided to wash them out and remove the mesh i had placed at the bottom.. the water now fluidises the pellets better and more evenly..

i also added some probio coral food (not sure what uts called) and then some biodigest yesterday.. the coral food clouded the water for a full 24h and i had to switch the skimmer off for the addition of the biodigest.. i got to the tank to find foam in my filter inlet compartment.. upon putting the skimmer on it skimmed and overflowed into the 5lt water bottle i have as a back up..

pics to follow..
