Lessons Learned... please post YOURS.

I flooded the kitchen with my DI unit I was all caugth up in t.v. and my chicken tenders and forgot to check the water.....................

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that forgets the RO/DI water......flooded the cellar so many times!!! Yesterday was the last time it flooded - it does not take 4 hours to make 20 litres of RO/DI water.......

-Make sure there is 100% no way water can touch a powerbar. I had a feed pump hose go astray and nearly caused a fire, lucky i heard the smoke alarm.
-Ensure that your RO system has something to ensure it won't flood besides setting a timer. I know so many people who have had small floods from these things.
-Get a drilled tank of the start.
-Make sure your tank will not overflow or flood in power failures.
-Don't listen to most lfs

1) Get what you want the first time. If you don't have enough money for it, or the right setup, then wait until you do.

2) ENJOY YOUR TANK! Remember, half the fun is in the build.

1. Tank water tastes disgusting.

2. Siphons can be started with a powerhead, the return flow from your sump, or by submerging the hose, covering the other end with your thumb, pulling the hose out slightly, then letting go with your thumb.

The center brace on an aquarium is there for a reason. I set up a 55 once that had a broken brace. 1/2 full of water, sand and rock the first day, no problem. The second day made enough water to fill it up and 1/2 hour later a steady drip of water started coming out from under the tank on the stand. Luckily I saw it when it started and was able to pull everything back out into a stock tank, get another 55 and start over.

My RO/DI is in the laundry room and the container is sitting right next to the floor drain that goes to the sump pump in the basement but I still hate overflowing and wasting the water I made. I set an alarm on my phone to remind me to switch containers since it is easy to forget.

Never drain water out of your tank to do a water change THEN realize you don't have any salt water premixed to put back in.

Dont leave an open bottle of food on the top corner of your tank. Accidentally knocked it in my tank a few days ago :( It was an absolute mess. Took me 2 hours to siphon all the food out not to mention the tank smelled nasty for a few days. UGH!!!

1) GFCI outlets are life savers.

2) "Good enough" isn't.

3) Have a spare.

4) Kids don't realize that "Nemo" doesn't drink from a juice box.

5) Think.

9 spend the extra money for a pre drilled aquarium

I'd say the opposite. Don't spend the extra money on drilled aquariums. Drill them yourself :) Easy, kinda fun, and usually quite a bit cheaper. Just make sure it's not tempered glass.:bounce2: Although, drilling tempered glass can be fun too. Just expensive ;)

admit you are an addict and need help lol

Ive been looking at a 180 for a while, and friends and family have been stopping me, thanks to them lol its only matter of time before I get out and get it though haha

find a trusted person, and trust him/her. no point reading on the net and questioning his/her ways. there are many many BS posted on the net ! I get all these new ppl they say they want a reef tank, so I tell them what they need and they argue with me that they saw a post on the net saying temp is not important so they dont want to buy heaters :S lol now when ppl say they want a reef tank, I say go pay 4 K to a chain store and let them do it, or if u want me to do it, dont talk :P kiinda dictatorship, but u just cant mix stuff up :).and the stuff u read on the net, dont believe them all !
