Let Them Flash!

It is a male P. rubricaudalis, 9cm from Vanuatu. It has a red tail without vertical blue stripe there. Fiji males have the stripe centrally on caudal fin. It commands a high price. Fiji specimens yet to be available.

Flashers don't need sand. They just make a mucus around them while they sleep.

Thanks for the reply.

So which wrasses do require sand?

fantastic thread H. Tanaka. I think i'll have to pick up some of those
Paracheiliunus rubricaudatus next time i order from australia. They seem rare :)

All the flashsers are plancton feeder but they can accept almost anything offered in the aquarium. They will accept diet directly even from your hand in a period.

Yes, P. rubricaudalis is a rare one that comes now only from Vanuatu as far as I know, and if you have it REALLY FROM Australia you should look at it so carefully what it is. It may be an undescribed one just shown above that is very similar to P. mccoskeri. See its anal fin, etc. and please keep me informed, and many thanks.

I will keep that in mind, and if i do get one eventually, many many photos are coming your way. I believe the collectors i know down under go very very far out, like 300 km for collection trips, so maybe they reach the outskirts of vanuatu. hmmmm :)

This is 5cm long Paracheilinus, unusually shaped and colored.

It seems a hybridized specimen between angulatus and lineopunctatus.

I seem to have P. rubricaudlis, Until I saw page 5 pics I did't know what it was nor did the lfs i purchased him from . I payed 30$. it does seem to have a light blue stripe on the the back fin I have a cheap camera but will try and get some photos for you.

Does your fish have a blue stripe on the dorsal fin ?
Anyway I am greatly looking forward to seeing your pics, and thanks.

it seems its more purple- pink i took about 50 pics of him today but didn't get a good one. I will keep trying. also I don't know how to post a pic can I email to you?

H.Tanaka, I have got a name for my flasher, p.flavianalis. thanks so much for the emailed pics. I am getting rid of my yellow tang and coral bueaty to make room for a couple more flashers. and to think I thought i had a rare fish only to find I have a common one. I have fallen in love with the flashers. this is such a great thread with all your info

konadog, that's the same kind i had before it mysteriously disappeared

Thanks all.

I am now trying to get Paracheilinus bellae, piscilineatus, hemitaeniatus, and togeanensis that I have never seen before my eyes at any shop or any web for sale in Japan. I hope that Brian would catch more P. bellae in the Marshalls for selling in Japan, too.

In 2009 I will visit Kalimantan to see what kind of fishes are sold there ! I could not find any marine aquarium shop in Taipei last year.
