Let's get the truth on dwarf angel fish

I have a Flame, as well as an Emperor and a Majestic in my 180 reef. I have mostly LPS and some softies as well as a few SPS and none of my angels have touched anything. (On a side note I put two Heniochus Dephreutes in my tank and they went right after my Candy coral but once I fed them and put Nori in they never touched anything again. Ever.) Back to the Angels. I was lucky enough that the two LFS I bought them from put fish in their display reef so I was able to observe them beforehand and saw they were not nipping at anything. If they had been nipping I would not have risked it. I could not beleive when I first bought my Emperor that I was actually doing it, but it had worked out for me.

I view it that if an angel were to pick on just one coral I would have to make a decision about which is more important to me, the coral or the fish? If the fish started devastating my corals I would have to remove him. The choice and the risk is an individual decision. If you want it bad enough go for it, if not, then play it safe.

they will nip, or not.

question is, do you like the fish enough to let it eat your corals ?

I made the choice, that I want angels and moorish Idol in my tank, knowing they will eat corals. and just as I thought, they do eat corals.

so if you dont want your corals eaten, dont try it ... if you are willing to take the loss, then ...

after checking that other thread...it's hard to believe that you're "totaly different people in totaly different places" with 'totaly' different computers...both without spell-check! :eek1:

No, but pretty sure it wouldn't have worked. It was the sandsifting gobies you commented on before that I needed to get out.

You'd be surprised... I've caught tangs, wrasses, anthias, gobies, blennies, clowns, etc etc with my fish trap.

I have caught fish twice in my tank using the following method. Dig a hole in the middle of your sand bed then drain the water out of your tank. When the water level starts getting very low the fish come out looking for deeper water and go into the hole in the sand bed. You can then just scoop them up. If a fish does not go to the hole you can move a few rocks and expose the fish. He usually has no place to go so you can scoop him up there. It's worth a shot if you need to remove a problem fish.

After watching todd's video I would say my flame angel does something similar. He doesn't eat the coral but nips like he's just grazing on regular old rock. He's not nearly as often as that coral beauty though, that was pretty frequent and in the same spot.
