Lets See SPS LED Tanks!

already posted pics earlier in this thread. Here's a recent vid:

I honestly don't know that you will see any increase in color, unless it's related to getting better intensity from the LED's if your MH was a bit underpowered for your setup. What I can guarantee from my personal experience is that you won't LOSE color.

I think a lot of this myth comes from people initially switching to LED from some other light source, increasing intensity too quickly, and passing judgement too quickly. Anyone with experience in this hobby knows that the only bad things that happen quickly in reefing are bad things. Anything good takes time, sometimes lots of it.

I have found livestock is SUPER sensitive to the change. I have had corals come from under MH, T5, and even sunlight and all bleach to some extent when first placed under LED. Bleaching obviously equals color loss, but it's only temporary. Once the coral adjusts and comes back 100%, color is just as good as you can get under any other light source.

The main advantage of LED IMO and IME, isn't that it will get you better color. For me it's about tiny and elegant form factor of the fixtures, increased efficiency, long duration between "bulb" replacement, less heat, and most of all the full blown customization potential of an RGB setup allowing for super-realistic and awesome looking sunrise/sunset/mooncycle/weather simulations for your tank.

Totally agree, has been my observation as well.

here are growth pics from oct11 to may12. fixture is custom build with 120 cree xpe s with led link optics

Amazing tank and colors! I'm researching LED for SPS on my new tank, as I don't want to deal with the heat, cost, electricity of MH like I did on my other tank.

7.5 Gallon SPS Nano under LED

Here are some pics up my 1 year old 7.5 gallon, SPS LED lit tank, using an AI Nano Blue 6" over tank 65% white, 80% Blues. The frags took some time to adjust to the LED's, which I have slowly ramped up from 20% over the last year. In the last month they have shown encrusting and last few weeks noticeable branching.

This is my first FTS...:)
It's running Eco-Lamps LEDs
Tanks still cycling...

Right, but what he is using for his own tank? What I know is MH 400 watts.... please correct me if I am wrong.

*GASP* Why on earth would Sanjay put MH over his reef??? Honestly, I've seen plenty of beautiful SPS photos under MH but that couldn't possibly mean that MH actually work... It doesnt make sense to me how anybody could grow colorful SPS under anything other than LED. :deadhorse:

Lets please keep this thread to posting photos of SPS LED tanks...there was another LED SPS growth thread that was eventually locked.

I really want to see more photos people; so keep on posting.

Next month I am going to place an order for the GHL Mitras. I am going full LED. The Mitras "fills" in a lot of the "missing" spectrum; so hopefully I will see good SPS coloration.

I don't think you'll regret that decision! I would LOVE to have one for myself but just can't swing it right now.

Here's what one of the early adopters of the Mitras LED pendant said
After one week of using Mitras, I have seen BETTER coloration with them than with halides or t5. I had AI LEDs before and I agree with you the colors were not as with MH and T5. But with Mitras, I am seeing those colors coming out like wit MH.

then later he posted this as a follow-up
Honestly I am seeing some REDS AND VIOLETS I NEVER saw before not even with MH.

That's saying a lot.. I realize it's not "Scientific" or "quantified" but it's still saying a lot about the way LED can make a tank look and grow...

Yes sorry, I don't want to start a debate. syedjilani, you have an awesome tank and I respect that. I'm just tired of hearing why one is better than the other. Encourage and embrace the changes others partake in to increase the greater knowledge of our community and, more importantly, to evolve the practice of our hobby.

Hi Sahin, so you are upgrading to all leds. I am so jealous! I wish I could follow you. Please keep us posted how it works out.

Dude in 4 months you have a full tank. In one year I still have a bunch of 1 inch frags.... What kind of par readings. Are you getting?

What settings are you using for your Radion?

Never have taken par readings, but here is a more recent pic:

Ange062, your tank is awesome! I have a Radion over my Elos Midi which is not much bigger than your Nanocube. I'm currently running it in Natural mode at about 75% intensity - slowly ramped up from 30% when I initially started using the Radion in March. What is your Radion set at? Here's a FTS when first set up:
