actually just flake food, he balls it up and holds it with him till he cant get anymore and then goes and stashes it for later use:)

smart little bugger
i wish it was some eggs (except that then he would then be a she and then she would die and i would have to little ones)

No laughing here, the simplicity of a mantis tank is something that I really like. Nice mantis also! I had a N. Wenn. for years, it was acctually what got me involved with mantids!

thanks. i wish i could really set it up to be a nice reef agian but i dont know im broke and corals are not at the top of my money spending list currently i was thinking about going just mushrooms and xenia and some cheap zoas just to get some color in there though

as a fellow student, I know how you feel gemini. I obtained all of my coral from local reefers and i found it to be much cheaper than if i had gone through my lfs. so that's a possibility for ya.

corals are good and all, but the first thing i would do in your tank is add more rock. the rock adds structure to the tank and to me, that's half the "reef." it also allows you to hide the equipment if you do the rockwork right. personally, i find myself messing with rockwork a lot more than coral placement.

but other than that, I would say that there's nothing wrong with your tank really. I too am a fan of the whole natural look.

just some new shots of my fav corals.

Oh, I can't wait to get my digital camera. I wanna show off too!!! I just got done rearranging my L/R. I made a great cave for Carnage. Maybe, I'll buy a camera this weekend.
Great looking pics also. Its real nice to see how far one can go with a mantis tank.

Here's my humble beginnings... 10g with N.Wennerae named "Peek" and "Zelda" the damsel.

This was the first morning after adding the Toadstool and Kenya Tree... they are looking much better now.

is all that stuff on mantis mtn aptasia!?!

get a peppermint shrimp, he'll eat all those lil nasties, and possibly become a meal for the mantis!

but thats a tight set up man. concrats! Stomatopods Rule!!

Northern Reef-
nice looking mantis with a good tank set-up. Where you able to buy your mantis from a LFS or did you have to have it shipped to you?

G. Smithii - You know... I've been trying for months to get a positive ID on what those little buggers are. Consensus says some sort of paly. Either way, don't seem to be hurting anything and they add something to look at until I'm able to fill up with other corals.

ck1 - No, I ordered mine from TampaBaySaltwater at the same time I ordered some LR for a different tank. I'm pretty sure that I have another mantis in that tank now, too. Hitchhiked in on the rock. I've never seen it, but it's causing mass destruction in the tank and I can hear it, too! That one has already had about 2 dozen each of snails and hermits and 2 Fire Shrimp, Cleaner shrimp, emerald crab, porcelain crab and decorator crab. Haven't been able to trap him yet, though. Too well fed to fall for it, I'd guess!
