Lets see those 5' Tanks!

MeuserReef

Welcome to the next level
Im looking to upgrade my 30 gallon in the next year or so and the space (the ONLY space) that I have to put the tank will fit a tank with a maximum length of 5'.

I know that there is a 5' 120 gallon that is 60"x18"x26".

LETS SEE 'EM!

Old pic, but you get the idea. A great size if you want a "big" tank that doesn't take up the whole room.

Wow... these are nice. I would really like to kave the 6' 210 gallon but the space for my tank is only 62" long, so Im either going to have to go with a 90 gallon, or a 5' 120 gallon.

I really dont want the ank coming 2 feet off of the wall, so Im pretty much set on the 5' 120 gallon.

I have only seen this tank made by Perfecto, which uses a tempered bottom. Anyone know if they also temper tha back glass (or any other glass for that matter).

Thanks

I just bought one of these tanks (the Top Fin tank at Petsmart, but it's still made by Perfecto), and I even called them. They only temper the bottom according to them.

you might look around - there is a 180 that is 5ft wide - deeper...
a deeper tank has a lot of appeal!

we were originally thinking (in upgrading) that we would try to stick w/ a 5ft tank - considering the space where it is located- yet going deeper (our tank already sits 30" out from wall to front of tank)... but have now decided to go w/ 6ft instead 240 or 290.

I wish I could go deeper, but the location that I have for the tank is already blocking 1 door of a 2-door French Door that goes out to our deck. I had been looking at the 4' 90 and the 4' 120 and the 90' was the only wife-approved choice (because it would only add another 6" of depth). All plans thusfar have been for a standard 90 gallon until I realized that the wall that the tank will sit against has just enough room (62") to fit the 5' 120 gallon. I still get the extra 6" of depth, and get 2 more feet in length (compared to my existing setup). After all, the 5' 120 is basically just a standard 90 gallon with another foot added onto its length.

Here is an old picture showing the current 30 gallon. As you can see, it will be a perfect fit for a 5' system. we NEVER use the left door on the french doors anyway:)

hey how is the longhorned cowfish holding up in your reef tank?

ever have any problems???
eating corals etc etc

see you have a lion in there
dont know much about lionfish but neat to see both LHCF and LF in a reef - like it when people do things that are out of the ordinary... espec if/when they work out! (i already know all the hearsay about lhcf!)

regards

oh btw WELCOME TO REEF CENTRAL!

LHCF?

I have a FO 100g 5 footer. Like the size, not too deep, not too long, only thing is getting a good deal on 60" T5 lights is not so easy (there's a lot less 60" T5 stuff in general), and I remember not having a lot of choice with the stand and canopy either as I bought the system used but it had a crap cheapo stand that I had to replace.

The other thing I just remembered is my stand has a big central divider between the doors making it tough to get sump in and out. Not sure if even possible...might just be this stand and not a general 5 foot thing though. Just be careful.

HTH

Mine is a 150, 60x24x24. I've been pretty pleased with it so far. I was struggling with the same issue... the wall I had to put the tank on was only 65" long.

Here's a recent FTS, and a couple of the area.

What manufacturer makes the 5' 100 gallon tanks?

CRVZ.....

gabe3d.....

scubajsm.....

... Awesome tanks. Thanks for posting.

CRVZ, I read your entire build thread on"that other forum" (:D). You do nice work. I hope to get down your way sometime soon to see your tank (and get some frags!!!!)

Im torn now between the 100 and the 120. I like the fact that a shallow reef is easier to light, however I do aspire to keep a "mixed" reef with some lower-light LPS and the 120 would give me another 5" of water height to allow both a high- and low-light zone.
