Lets see those 5' Tanks!

Alve, you have a nice setup there. I love the towers and am strongly leaning torwards putting one or two in my new setup. How did you build them?

I was in the same boat. I had an area of 62" x 30" to work with.
This is a shot of the area and the 90g we replaced.

So we went with a 60" x 36" flat back hex design,
doing that allowed me 6" more width without the sharp corners sticking out past the wall. (2 little ones)

... All VERY nice tanks. Thanks for sharing these pics.

I wont be setting up my new 120 for a few months (come on tax return :D) so I have a while to plan everything out. Seeing these pics definetly gives me some ideas as to the aquascaping possibilites in a 5' tank.

Im curious if anyone else has the
PERFECTO 120 Gallon XH (extra high) tank from PetSmart. I know that the bottom of this tank is tempered and I'm cool with that. I will be drilling the back for my overflows anyway.

Keep those pics coming. This thread is really getting good!

Duece,

That tank is sick man.
That might be the nicest looking rock I've ever seen. I'd kill to have that much purple!

Thanks Treg. Yup, I was pretty amazed how fast corraline covered the rock considering it started as 120 lbs of dead dry Marco rock and seeded with just a few lbs of corraline encrusted rubble.

...that much purple...
... = Mucho Calcium!

I agree with you Treg. Has this tank ever been nominated for TOTM? Clearly one picture doesnt tell the whole story, but it clearly shows that we need to see more of this tank!!!...

... So lets see some more pics of this setup Deuce67

Wow, thanks for the kind words. The tank is still young and im paying the price on rushing it. Lost a few of my sps over the past few weeks. Im struggling right now to get everything in check but it will get there. My little red house shows the build.

MeuserReef, I drilled them and used the clear acrylic kitchen blind rods which were only a few bucks at home depot. It was very easy to do. They are not round, have edges but that is no problem at all to work with.

I will browse through the build later this evening. I always seem to forget about the "Red House" :(

I just bought an Oceanic 60" x 18" x 26", it's second hand so I'm not sure if Oceanic still makes this size though

I never knew that Oceanic made a tank of this size. When I was searching for a tank with the 60x18x26 demensions, all I found was the Perfecto glass tank and an acrylic tank on eBay.

Thats a good idea. Good alternative to the plastic-supply-house price for the "official" acrylic rods im sure.

Heres mine, also started a tank journal at: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1318595

PS: I do actually have a good ammount of fish but as the majority are Angels they tend to enjoy just swimming in and out of the rocks.

jubjubrsx,

What are the demensions of that tank? I dont think I have ever seen a 5' 75 gallon. With a shallow tank, you will get much more "bang for your buck" with regards to lighting.

the tank is 60x18x16 i belive it is.....basically its just a shorter tank then the 120's i think they are.....at the moment im running 2x 250w mh's on it.....w00t

Mine is an Oceanic and measures about 26 inches high, but that includes the frame. It's truly a 24" though if you measure the inside height.

I have the same tank you do and was wondering about the sides being tempered to. Mine had a tag on it that said do not drill and a sticker on the bottom that said tempered do not drill. So I'm not sure if its just the bottom or all sides. Are you possitive that the back is not tempered?
