Let's see those Aussie acans!

Jeeze,
Thats surreal.

I did pick this one up recently.....couldnt really get a pic of how it actually looks though. That speckling is more like glittering gold around the red-orange ring. It definitely caught my eye from across the room in a tank full of nice Aussie acans so thats saying something.

This one looks more indo or japanese to me......

And this one I cant tell what the heck its going to be. It looks more orange than pink in person but the color still doesnt look "set" like some of the other Aussies I have. Its more washed out in comparison to established ones in my tank (ie froot loops, billabong) but the distinct neon green ring hints at potential to me.

This last one was a bit of a disappointment even though I got it cheap. I almost wonder if I got a bait and switch when the seller saw how little it went for. Nice coral, super cheap but thought it had orange and green rings with purple and green centers not just some flecking here and there.

Junior, I especially like what its looking like on the lower edges...you can see it has that green ring thing going a little bit. I have a similar one without the bluish-grey margin and it seems to only get that where there is lower light.

lol...the really cool part i haven't gotten a picture of yet. On one polyp right in the middle of the colony it has a crazy bright neon green streak right through the middle of the mouth. I can only hope the rest of the colony develops this same coloration.

Typically with these acans the newer polyps will have more of a rainbow color, as the polyps get older they morph into their true form.

i Know exactly what you are talking about. I have several that do the same thing.

However, there is some promise. One of most mature, largest polyps has a bright green streak going through the mouth...im keeping my fingers crossed. However, im totally happy with them as they are.

Junior I have a very simular colony and I have found that the green ring will get brighter in lower light areas. If a polyp gets too much light the green completely disapears on my colony. If it doesn't get enough light the orange fades, so it was a challenge getting the lighting just right.

exactly! Thats what i told my wife...

What do you guys think about this piece? Not even sure if it's an acan...but I nicknamed it "Miami Hurricane Acan"

Thanks Jr. :) Believe it or not, that is pretty much at their puffed up "state." The polyps stay relatively flat compared to all the other aussie acans I own. I'll snap another shot when it's more settled in.

Those just appear to be recently fragged. Once those larger polyps heal a bit and settle in, they'll puff up some more.

Awesome scores BTW Jr. and Kigs!!!

I got the same one Kigs but from the side it looks different. From the top mine looks just like yours! I call it Bluegrass Special! :D
