Let's see those Aussie acans!

Beautiful corals! I recently got a few colonies. I must have gotten younger colonies because the polyps in some of these photos look huge to me. Are alot of these Photos close-ups or something? I find I have a little "Acan Envy" :p

August, my pics are pretty closeup. I think most of my polyps are somewhere between a dime and a penny in size. I know what you mean about size in the pics though. Without something to reference to size some coral colonies can look monstrous in the pics and bit size in real life. :D

Depends on the acan, too. I have some that are HUGE (like 2+ inches) and others that are less than an inch.

The lack of perspective for macro shots can be a real visual plus, making relatively small subjects appear gigantic. In general, Acanthastrea polyps are roughly an inch across, though as you've heard, some are bigger and some smaller. Here the left front polyp on one of my Rainbow acans is expelling the digested remains of a mysis shrimp. I made no color specific adjustments in these photos.

My new favorite reef macro is of my green acan.

looks good peter

Thanks Richard.... I'm gonna need a separate LPS tank soon! :o

keeping this guy in lower light seems to have kept the colour. Had it about 4 months and it doesn't look worse then when I first got it.
