I wouldn't say it directly underneath the halide since it's pretty close to the front but my light fixture is about 5 inches from the waters surface. What water parameters are you running ?

Here is a picture of my tank. The dragon is right in the middle about half way down. PO4 .03, calcium 450, mag 1400, nitrates undetectable with salifert can't remember the rest off the top of my head, but I try to keep everything in check the best I can.
