Lets see those Rare Clows

No doubt Chris, no doubt. There are a few of us willing to go long on the dollar and be patient.

One thing in our favor, market saturation for a larger clown specimen, which does not look like a classic clown, is going to occur pretty quickly. A good breeder alone can drop the price substantially, i.e. $10K/pr to $1K/pr very quickly with a minimal supply.

IMHO, it would be a wise business decision to sell to the higher areas first and invest in more growout capabilities to sustain the broodstock diversity.

I agree Scott, it seemed to happen with the rush of latz that came in this past year. Once the core group got their fill, there seemed to be some latz that lasted weeks if not months at vendors/lfs because the everyday hobbiest wasn't going to pay the going rate for what I've heard described as a "boring brown clownfish".

Yeah and just imagine what they will think of a not quite black clownfish with a blurred white head stripe. I think it will be a get in high and then get out market.

Just going back and reading some old posts by mrblue, he states that the US wholesalers wouldn't touch what the Japanese would pay, so who knows if/when we will see them. Maybe we should pool are resources and get a wc pair to a competent breeder here in the US.:rolleyes::lol:

maroon hybrid?

maroon hybrid?

Here is a pic of my maroon that I bought from a LFS. It was sold as a "Mar-cula" suggesting that it is a cross between a Maroon and a Percula. It certainally seems to be. It was a wild caught specimen and he had one other that was marked similarily but not to this extent. I would love to get some feedback on this fish.

maroon hybrid

maroon hybrid

I tried to post this morning. It seems that I'm quite computer handicapped! I bought a "Mar-cula" clown from a LFS, the name and the owner suggest that it is a cross between a Maroon and a Percula. I have never seen anything like this before and had to have it. It is a wild caught fish. He had another similarly marked ,but not to this extent. Any feedback on this fish would be great. (due to my previously mentioned handicap, you will need to go to my gallery to view it)

fwiw: It does not look like a hybrid, it looks like a mis-bar.

Thanks Scott. I thought of that possibility but it is both bars and both sides. They have the same look (as far as the bar goes) as my Soloman Island Percs.

I agree w/Scott. It is not unusual for maroons to have a "bulge" on the mid-stripe or even on the tail stripe.

The few TR maroon x perc/occ hybrids I have seen have a completely different body shape than a maroon.
