Lets see your Ora Red Planet

Its a tabling acro, so it wants alot of light and flow. Mine is 2 inches from the surface, was directly under 10k 250w halides and absolutely loved it, now under t5s and still doing fantastic. Sounds way too low in the tank.

I would expect browning over bleaching when placed to low. It still has polyp extension but almostno color.

Expecting the unexpected makes the unexpected the expected.

But very true, anything is possible with these tanks.

Here is mine. it is one of my favorite pieces.

Just picked mine up this morning. Its doing excellent so far, full polyp extension within minutes of going in my tank!

I cant wait to watch it grow out! I can already tell its going to be one of my favorite corals!!!

to much light will cause a loss or the green. i have found lower light to give more rich color in this piece.

Mine simply continues to encust and encrust. No branching growth. At this point it looks like a monti

Any thoughts on why?

Three things i could think of.
one,if its getting blasted with light it may not want to grow vertical and go towards the light if too intense.

two,its a tabling coral and really didnt get happy til i mounted it so it grew sideways.

and three ,if the old original branches became shocked and stunted, removing them(cut tips off) will spark some new growth and sometimes will trigger the coral to start growing rapidly again.

here is a pic of mine and as you can see its growing out and not up

you got it right- your coral is laying down the groundwork for what's to come. Proper environmental conditions promote the normal growth pattern in this species which needs a solid base, intense light and brisk water movement above the coral. Those keeping their frag on a plug need to mount it to rockwork.

Interesting, thanks for the replies, guys. I'll just let it do its thing, then.

I agree, it does think it's a Monti. That should turn into a beautiful piece once it decides to grow up. To me it's taking care of the hard part first, I can only hope mine looks like the ones in this thread. Your's looks to have kept the green color, which many seem to lose, nice work.
