Oh, I should have included a pic for reference:

It looks like it's very close to blowing up...get ready! :) I've had several corals do that; some just love to encrust first. Once they have a solid base, they seem to grow much faster than some other corals that just grow up from the start.

I agree, it does think it's a Monti. That should turn into a beautiful piece once it decides to grow up. To me it's taking care of the hard part first, I can only hope mine looks like the ones in this thread. Your's looks to have kept the green color, which many seem to lose, nice work.

I'm wondering if the green is just a function of the growth pattern. I just assumed it would lose it once it grows out, but always keep it at the base, like another unamed red table I have. Thanks!

That's what I'm thinking too. I plan to "this the heard" of acros around it when I move the tank this weekend.

Great looking colors..!...this is one of the most amazing colored SPS out there..just added one to my new reef..

I would say that lower light is best. Mine has encrusted so much it is engulfing other acros in the process. This is a dominant coral. Kills everything it touches! Mine is also solid pink. The pink planet LOL!

wow these are all great shots. how much light is the best to keep the green in the base?

All my new growth is Red and white it is the older growth that has the green. I have mine high in the tank under 400W radiums.

Here is a macro shot of one of the branches

Love my Red Planet Table. Got it last August, it started encrusting and then one of its branches started taking off. It's about half way down in my 55 gal tank that's lit by two 250w 14K MH's. It gets pretty good intermittent flow from a VorTech MP20. I love its color and was impressed with its growth, until I saw the amazing growth others are getting from their frags in this thread.
Awesome reef husbandry, everyone!

The first photo is from the day I got it last August, the second from just a few days ago (about 3 months in my tank)....

Mine simply continues to encust and encrust. No branching growth. At this point it looks like a monti

Any thoughts on why?
Mines the same exact way Peter. Drives me nuts. I'll have to snap a picture of it tomorrow. I feel like it's been giving me the finger for almost a year now.
